If you decriminalized drugs eg available pure dosed on prescription from recognised medical authority, the need for guns would dramatically diminish, the jails would empty and crime would drop. What a stupid idea.

I do think we ought to legalize some drugs. The prices for what they sell in the pharmaceutical industries is just ridiculous. It'd also help cut back on the jail population here. It's pretty high.

It would also help crush the black markets and druglords. Legalize Marijuana and actually start to eradicate the opium poppys in Afghanistan (since we've been there ages now) and a lot of the underground drugs violence should hopefully diminish. Either that or legalize all drugs but keep prices high enough to deter consumption, but low enough to make black market application unlikely.

End of the day, people are going to ruin there own lives with self-abuse. The best thing we can do is make sure that a huge black market and violent industry doesn't spawn from it, thus I think legalization has a lot of merits to it, other than the argument I've heard of that "the only people who want to legalize drugs are the potheads themselves". The only drug I ever take is Alcohol from time to time, and I support legalization of Marijuana atleast.

This is the problem. It gets so emotional that even rational intelligent people like you make silly arguments like this. Of course rights and freedoms are important everywhere. However some other places they also tend to like to do what they can to keep people safe. If that means not having the ability to own a device whose sole purpose is to kill things, that's OK.
