Here's Your Chance: Stump the Atheist!

Your real name is Philip Jose Farmer and you wrote Venus On The Half-Shell (I remember reading the book as a child).

Venus On The Half-Shell inspired later books like Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy and The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

*I have eaten there.

The weird thing is that I was heavily inspired after reading HHG to travel into the past, change my name to Philip Jose Farmer, and write Venus on the Half-Shell.

What is meant by the title "God"? What makes something holy or divine? Until we know that, we cannot know if God exists.

God is that which does not exist, but by definition is un-disprovable. God is that which at any time is 1cm further away than you are able to see. God is the one whose work is obvious and everywhere, yet impossible to measure or prove or witness. God is a metaphore for how "stuff" happens. God is a metaphore for our own minds. God is the Emperor's beautiful clothes. God is the human way of conquering fear of the dark. God is a device to make it OK to send people to their deaths and tell others what to do and what is right and wrong. God is an invisible friend and foe. God is the power over people that you don't have but you'd like others to obey to anyway.

God is in the details... or was that the other guy?

God is a plot device in the history of humanity.

God is using the logical fallacy of appeal to authority, when there is no actual authority to appeal to.

Perhaps it isn't God (as a name) who titles himself that way, maybe it is something of our human standard hierarchy and positions.

Many say Jesus IS God!
What if He came knocking at your door?!

Jesus? Well, since I'm an atheist, I'd assume I'd miss my chance to ask him a lot of probing questions, and assume he was a charlatan.

And if He can't or won't.....what then of you?

Not sure it would change my situation in the world in any particular way, to be honest.

(apply the name of any other prophet you might prefer)

Hmmm...if it was Larry Bird it might be more impactful. For starters, I could pick if he was the real deal. And my jumpshot could sure use some tinkering.

Just kidding, there's nothing you could stump me with.
Exactly. And that defines the tragedy (as I would call it).

Why this very day, this news article speaks about what I am describing.
Francis:
At this morning’s mass in St. Martha’s House the Pope said: “You can read an atheist a whole library, where it says that God exists and even proving that God exists, and he will not have faith. But if you bear coherent witness of Christian life, something will begin to work in his heart…. But an incoherent Christian brings scandal and scandal kills.”

So shame on us for being incoherent (read: disobedient, not true to our faith), but shame on you for acting intellectual, but not really. (imo)

No, the biggest tragedy in all this is that there often seems to be a correlation between religiosity and lack of a sense of humor.

I wasn't going to shame you for being incoherent until I read this sentence.

I am exceedingly cheap. So am I worth a lot of frugals, or none at all?

Yes, that's right.

I didn't say why he was knocking though. He might be acting neighbourly, and bringing you a fruit basket.

I find that neighbors who act friendly and bear gifts also tend to be the nosiest and most gossipy ones, so I'd refrain from answering the door at all.

Ok, I agree. You win this round.

I could have been more in tune with the tone and just let it be. Shame on me.

I guess the timing with the pope’s homily yesterday pushed me in that direction.

IF EVOLUTION WAS REAL THEN WHY DO PENGUINS SWIM?
Birds fly. Fish swim. You can't explain that. Therefore Penguins are fish and so are dolphins. Evolution is wrong. checkmate atheist.

Yes, that's right.
No, it is totally wrong. Who would know better than me?

You do keep the tinfoil carefully sealed all around your place, don't you. You never know when neighborliness might leak in.

Silly little people.

Nothing, you say?

The Goldbach Conjecture says that every even integer greater than 2 can be expressed as the sum of two primes. For example, 12 is 7+5. 20 is 13+7. Is the Goldbach conjecture true or false?

Has that stumped you?

I'm making yet another target-blow-pipe. I don't know whether to have a shorter pipe of higher caliber, or a longer pipe of lower caliber. So, what do you reckon might be the idea length and calibre for reasonable power and accuracy, together with ease of carrying, etc?

Silly little people.

As an Ex-atheist, The best evidence a Christian could present to you is the sign of Jonah. After all, it's the only sign given to the Lawless and adulterous generation, and they can't even present it correctly.

Christian Tradition and Current Christian doctrine present Jesus being Crucified on a Friday preparation day thus falling short of fulfilling word of God. Jesus was crucified on a Wednesday preparation day thus fulfilling the prophecies He claimed to fulfill. Most of all the crucifixion had nothing to do with the salvation of Christians. It was the process Jesus pioneered to experience spiritual re-birth. He then taught others to experience this same process. Christians have yet to experience this.

Don't look to Christians to stump you, they stump themselves. If you want to find God, you can. You just have to seek and not stop till you find.
