How is music not a tool of Satan?

Excuse me but what does that have to do with quoted question?
For one it shows that you misunderstand the very faith you believe in. Otherwise, it shows that Islam does not forbid music much less that music is the work of Shaytan.
Where are you getting your misinformation from?
Or are you just making up new Hadiths to promote your misanthropy?

Not proof. You have nothing to even closely back that up.

The study, led by Dr. Brian Primack, an assistant professor of medicine and pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, found that teens who reported listening to music more often — rather than using other types of media like TV and books — were at higher risk of having major depressive disorder (MDD), compared with teens who listened to music less frequently. With each level increase in music use, teens had an 80% higher risk of depression, the study found.

Cigarettes might relax you for a short term but it increases anxiety for long term. Same with music.

So is doing anything else you enjoy during negative periods in your life. Anything else?

This is my first post here and had to edit out my harsh opinion... I love music. I grew up listening and playing music, so it will always be a huge part of my life. Music is an ancient concept. Music is a means of communication. Music can be a form of meditation, or ritual. Music can be spiritual. Music helps to define the style of every culture.

They all have a distinct sound, choice of notes, instruments that each culture plays, accent, expression... Music is a vocabulary.

If you are not open to it or taught that it is a sort of distraction in life, then that is a pity. I could not follow such a path.

Quran says:

And behold, We said to the angels: “Bow down to Adam” and they bowed down. Not so Iblis (Satan): he refused and was haughty: he was of those who reject Faith. (2: 34)

Interesting, in this verse the Quran describes Satan as a third rate juvenile delinquent who would burn his lips trying to blow up a car. Big Deal!!!!!

How is music not an in-direct cause to hatred and violence? It's a fuel for confidence, but the fuel is poisoned, just like steroids.
And just like religion. It's ironic that you perpetually fail to see how many of your criticisms can be equally said of religion. Specifically your religion. So the question then is, who are you to judge and question others?

A few notes on that study. First, the media tends to get such studies wrong typically sensationalizing them. Second, many studies, such as whether or not eggs are good for you or harmful, tend to be hard to reproduce.

Reading the study itself, I found first that the subjects were adolescents, a particular developmental stage.

They noted that only one kind of music was studied: Major depressive disorder is positively associated with popular music exposure...

But later on they admit that other studies have not found their result ...we previously used the National Longitudinal Survey of Adolescent Health to investigate electronic media exposure in nondepressed middle adolescents and subsequent development of MDD after 7 years of follow-up. ...However, there were no statistically significant associations between MDD and exposure to music, video games, or videocassettes.

So even if one assumes the study is accurate, the conclusion would be that adolescents should avoid popular music which evokes unhelpful emotional responses.

But as an addendum, I appreciate the cite of an actual study @sovietchild It's much more interesting to me to explore actual findings.

It's not even his religion, it's his interpretation of his religion. I know Muslims that listen to and enjoy music. That's what's annoying me, his constant judgemental attitude and his extreme views/interpretations.

The concept behind Iblis is more complex than merely disobeying Allah. Iblis is the first model of separation of' 'I' and 'Consciousness' independent of the Absolute (God). In this, Iblis represents one's subjective universe (imagination) and antinomianism, both necessary ideals behind the Black Path.

Work for example. There is one at my work who listens to music everyday. How are chances of making a mistake does not increase while listening to music?

Suppose one listens to Islamic sermons everyday at work. Since that is a distraction and increases the chances of making a mistake, are Islamic sermons satanic?
