if God can do anything, can he lie?

Sleeppy

Fatalist. Christian. Pacifist.
it is not the pyrite that is doing the deceiving....
But you already know that.

If this childish personification is the best you got, you got nothing.

Pyrite can be deceptive, hence 'fools gold'. Learn something or take nothing.

There is no need for someone who determined what truth is, to lie. Lies are reserved for those unable to determine what truth is, either as it is, or as they will it to be.
The scriptures I referred to not withstanding.

Peace be upon you.
Abraham was going to kill his son as God ordered, why God changed his mind if he was serious ?
I didn't say Abraham was lying, Abraham believed God and he was going to kill his own Son,right .
Peace be on you.....
It is not a matter of God changing His mind.
Do not you think that Hazrat Ibrahim (on whom be peace) had already "killed" his son by leaving him in wilderness.
1-God's order was given in dream, it was symbolic.
2-Hazrat Ibrahim (on whom be peace) took it literally due to his extreme patriotism [and there was a custom of human sacrifice in that time.]
3-God rectified the situation by saying he had already fulfilled the dream.
4-This all situation stopped the human sacrifice.
5-Such rare--examples are present when Prophets' thought some dream in a way but it turned out in different way.....This shows they are human being....But it does not undermine their quality to lead....Such are very rare matters and outcomes is good.

Thou art That
and if he can lie, why should we trust him?

Because his lie is a device to trick the rational mind into a state of divine union where Absolute Joy awaits us.

The other story....

God forbids Adam and Eve the eating of the 'Forbidden Fruit', *wink*, *wink*, and then disappears from their sight. He then re-appears to them as a serpent in order to ensure that they DO eat of it. The 'Forbidden Fruit' is a symbol of God Consciousness. Remember that the serpent told A&E that the reason God did not want them to eat of it was because their eyes would be opened and they would then 'see as God sees'. This is God Consciousness. God set up a piece de resistance, a psychological device to trick the rational mind out of itself, and into union with God.

Of course A&E will eat of the Fruit! There is nothing else they CAN do! God knows this, just as you would know the first thing your child will do when told NOT to open that mystery box in the corner of his room even under the threat of 'or else!'. In that moment, you've actually ensured that they will open that box, and you KNOW it!:D

Hence, there was no 'Sin', as God fully intended A&E to partake of his unconditional gift of Divine Union.

It doesn't matter. What matters is whether or not you are aware when you lie and you are aware why you lied while you were lying. A truth can be said in a tone that will be perceived as a lie, and a lie can be said in a tone that will be perceived as a truth. It is not what is said but in what tone it is said. How it is said will determine how it is heard. How it is heard will determine how it is believed. How it is believed will determine how it is felt.

God cannot lie. You mis-heard Him.

such a question from one not having faith.....
or do you?
you make far to many assumptions for your own good.
But hey, whatever helps you sleep at night, right?

Interestingly enough, you have not answered the question with your irrelevant retort.

Can God lie?

Has anyone asked God? What did he answer? He said he can't? How can we know he wasn't lying about it?...

God cannot lie because it is contrary to His innate character and nature...
From post 9

:smallredtriangle:God lied to Abraham about wanting Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac.

:smallredtriangle:God also made others lie, in effect lying through them.
1 Kings 22:23
"Micaiah said, “Ahab, this has now happened. The Lord has caused your prophets to lie to you. The Lord has decided that great trouble should come to you.”
