I thought fat people were human beings with feelings, too. Maybe we should make threads about people who have chronic halitosis. It is insensitive-- I am not one for being Politically Correct, but I think people do need some sensitivity-- at least a little.

P. S. What is the debate about? Maybe we can instead talk about gyms and exercise. That would be much more useful.

Technically, I was "overweight" the entire time I was in the military. Now, to the untrained eye who just sees stupid BMI numbers they might just chalk it up to "another fat American". However, my body fat percentages were always in the lower 20% range which is considered quite lean for women. What does that say about BMI? It says if you are muscular it will read you as overweight and therefore fat. As I said...it's useless.

Denial is exactly one of the reasons the problem gets that BIG that fast. Then they teach it to their children :facepalm:

I have lost 10 cm of belly by main diet and a little bit more strictness with my weight lifting! :D

The other day I reached 67 cm! though I am kind of oscillating between 71 and 68 cms still.

If you want your "friend" to truly lose weight, offending him or her isn't the way to do it. Would you go up to a friend who is smoking and say "Man, those cigarettes make you look old and they make your breath stink like an ashtray" or to drug addict "Man, those drugs you take make you look like a total idiot". Or to an alcoholic, "Man, you sure act stupid when you get drunk". No? So why are people nicer to them than to fat people? There are kinder ways to tell people things.

As a student nurse, we usually use the BMI to determine if a person is underweight, overweight, normal or obese. Aside from computing it (weight in kg/ height in meters square) there are still other methods to determine if you're obese or not. I say, don't rely on it alone. Better consult health professionals.

Believe it or not, speed walking works just as well as a slow jog-- it just takes longer. My BMI went down about 14 points in just a few months of speed walking. I also lift free style weights. My cholesterol is very good and I am healthy.

Actually, sometimes I think the blunt way is often the best way with some people. Sugar coating things often makes it seem like things aren't as bad as they are. Sometimes it takes a real friend to be honest enough to hold the mirror up and let it show even the harshest of truths. Sometimes that's what it takes to get through to people. Be they alcoholics, drug addicts, or even dangerously overweight.

Studies suggest that negative feedbacks doesn't help ( e.g dude, you're so fat. Fix it or die young). You'll just offend the person by doing that instead of convincing him/her to do some weight loss plans. Positive feedbacks/reinforcements help alot though. Studies suggest that those who receive positive feedbacks has 80 to 90% chance of achieving their desired amount of weight loss.

It may work with some people, it may be the only thing that will work with some people. But back when I was big, I knew I was big-- I knew I needed to lose weight. I was pretty embarrassed to be that big. I got that big because I gained too much weight with pregnancy and because of anti-depressants. I didn't need some slender so and so telling me "Hey, you're fat, Lady!" When I lost weight, I made the decision myself. That's the only person who can motivate each person: That person alone. :)

I am actually to start a program called p90x on the 1st of the month that comes so I wouldnt be following any diet the page would make for me until at least after the month, but then I would hope I will only need to maintain, not keep losing :D

As I understand, most people in US dont get big because of pregnancy but because of eating garbage.

Cardio exercises are good if one wants to loose weight.

Unfortunately though, some do rely on it alone with no real knowledge of body fat and what it means. We need better education of what it is to have a healthy body.
