If your deity asked you to kill your child, would you do it?

Yeah its 0%.
Here's the thing, if there is a deity that would interact and speak with and involve itself in the dealings if mankind, the idea that it would have to ask you to kill your own child for them says a few things. Either they are just sadistic, and thus, no deity worth worshiping or they are inept. That is, even if they knew that your child would do a great evil they apparently lack the power or ability to do Jack squat about it themselves. Again, not much of a deity.

I was saying that because no one has any proof of a deity speaking to them.

Short of it either being a big booming voice others heard as well or having a way of recording audio of deity, whatever that might be, there wouldn't be, would there?

Yeah, but a deity that truly wanted people to believe in it seems to be making it nigh impossible.

That's good that you are not having children.
Ain't that the truth.
Probably would've ended up as another one of those "God told me to kill my children" tragedies.
Man, extreme devotion to a religion or ideology can really suppress our sense of ethical decency to the point of being outrageous.

And that's assuming the deity even cares. I don't personally think that deity itself really cares whether we believe or not. Why would it? Is it an insecure child that needs to be validated? I truly don't think that it is an issue of a deity caring at all, but certain believers caring that others believe what they do. That is who is insecure and needs validation. Those whom keep insisting others believe.

And why do you think your religion is correct?
I've debated with him on this quite extensively. He believes in Islam because he believes the Koran is the word of God, because the Koran says so.

I don't know how people can a) subscribe to something that easily, or b) allow their moral compass to be totally dictated to (in this case killing your child) if commanded to.

The combination of the two seems rather frightening to me.

So he is either a troll or a super theist?

No. Sacrificing myself is one thing, but I balk at killing someone else, especially kids. If it's important that the child die, God can wait until they are of competent age and tell them to sacrifice themselves.
