- Have an overhead line shaft flat belt drive shaper......used to
- Hand scrape surfaces instead of grinding …...well.....almost
- Have a weighted carriage on your lathe....been there
- Still use 1/2-12 taps & dies.....quilty
You pre-1900 types had to mess with change gears to cut threads.- Have no quick change gearbox on your lathe.....how did you KNOW that

Oh, please, youngster! I have owned several abacuses (abaci, to be correct), along with slide rules. There were no calculators that could fit in a pocket, and very few that could be carried by a man of decent strength!when I was twenty something......
