- Have an overhead line shaft flat belt drive shaper
- Hand scrape surfaces instead of grinding
- Have a weighted carriage on your lathe
- Still use 1/2-12 taps & dies
- Have no quick change gearbox on your lathe
- Sport a handlebar mustache

Oh, please, youngster! I have owned several abacuses (abaci, to be correct), along with slide rules. There were no calculators that could fit in a pocket, and very few that could be carried by a man of decent strength!

Pencil and paper, however, was pretty readily available.

We have multi-national 'rats' in that case....not all of them are 'revolting' I have to say....and they are a cash cow for the hallowed halls of learning, so not many on scholarships....not trotting around our universities at present due to the bug. But I'm sure they are itching to come back.
