Increasing Risk

Your OP suggests the risk of further "shenanigans" by Trump is increasing by the day as we approach Biden's inauguration. I think it is decreasing. I don't for a moment suggest there is no problem and we can all go to sleep.

What do you think is likely to happen the 17th through the 20th in Washington and the 50 state capitols? An net increase or a decrease in the risk to our representative government?

Decrease, relative to 6th Jan. But far from zero risk obviously.

One major reason I think the risk is lower is that the security will be a damned sight better. Another is I think quite a few of these people may have second thoughts, now that they see the popular reaction. It's not quite a the jolly joke many of them thought the first time round. A third is that Trump will not be making inflammatory speeches or sending out incendiary tweets.

These posters are showing up in quantity both in Washington D.C. and in the state capitols. Same poster, apparently, popping up across the country.

"Come armed at your personal discretion"

So glad that cannot possibly be what it appears to be.

Mark my words. The proof is not in your theories, but in what will play out in reality. We'll see what happens.

Could be a false flag, too.

Ever had a chance to study Russia in the years
before the Revolution? Byzantine doesn't even
come close to it. False flags, sure. But also,
false-false flags, false-false-false flags, and I can't
recall now if it even stopped there. Apparently,
there's good evidence to suggest that the
assassination of Tsar Nicholas was carried out by
an agent of his own government who'd been
authorized to do it in order to prove to a group of
radicals he had infiltrated that he was not
a 'cop in disguise". I guess Humans can get pretty
detached from reality sometimes. Who would have
thunk it?

Whoever is behind it needs permanent jail

Totally agree.

I was referentiating the antifa riots
at trumps inauguration.

Do you remember GWB being booed at
Obama inaugural?
I'm lucky to remember my name these days.
But you must be wrong.
Liberals, BLM, Antifa....they're never hostile or violent.

Dragging him out of the oval orifice
might be just the thing to provoke a genuinely
violent response.
Pelosi is playing politics with fire.
Trump has lit the fire and fanned the flames. Now what's left is to win the war.

I see we're having an outbreak of whataboutism here trying to compare killing cops, threatening members of Congress and the media and so forth as if it's equivalent.

I'm far far FAR beyond caring about so-called comparisons.

One thing these people will not be, if they ever get to DC in the first place, is armed, by the time they arrive. I am sure the mayor and the police will have an exclusion zone round the sensitive areas and people will be searched for weapons before they are allowed entry.

Just to remind, this movement still has no backing from anyone with real power. Not the military, not silicon valley (see Talk Radio Giant Tells Hosts to Stop ‘Stolen Elections’ Rhetoric: Live Updates), not corporate America (see Talk Radio Giant Tells Hosts to Stop ‘Stolen Elections’ Rhetoric: Live Updates), not lawyers (see Capitol Riot Fallout Live Updates: Fallout Spreads to Sports, Universities and Businesses), and arrests are being made (see Capitol Riot Fallout Live Updates: Fallout Spreads to Sports, Universities and Businesses). That's not to say there won't be serious issues - we'll be dealing with far-right extremists and terrorists for a while - but accountability is happening and the winds are not in favor of any prolonged insurrection that will have any real success in overthrowing our democracy. That's also not to say that we're out of the proverbial woods either, but these terrorists have a heck of a mountain to climb without the backing of any real powers.

That’s right, but that cuts both ways. For many, this means they go home.

For others, this means that next time they will be better armed. And then it really won’t be a joke.

I hear what you are saying exchemist, and I don’t disagree. But there are two sides to this coin, which in some ways is decreasing, in other ways increasing, the danger of violence.
