I voted yes. If you wish genocide upon any ethnicity, you are racist. Even if you wish it upon your own.

Voted "No". Communist genocides in the 20th century were motivated by the perceived political loyalty of different national minority groups to the regime, rather than race. race and nationality were treated separately in the literature as a basis for determining the "intent to destroy" a people. They did not use a conception of race as a basis for official motivation in the preparation, planning and execution of genocide but are included within the definition of genocide because it covers attempts to destroy a people on the basis of nationality, ethnicity and religion as well as race. Genocide also covers a number of actions in addition to extermination of a people:

...any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

(a) Killing members of the group;
(b) Causing serious bodily harm, or harm to mental health, to members of the group;
(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;
(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;
(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

The term is confusing. Its definitely evil. Race means that you discriminate based on someone's lineage -- or at least it used to.

Of course it is racist.
So much so, and so unapologetically, that I strongly suspect that there's some context missing. The article referenced the slaughter in Haiti after the slave revolt. That was not racist per se. It's that all the slave owners happened to be French and therefore white.
Maybe the professor was looking for an example from history where white people were targeted for their race. I don't know of one off hand. Who knows?

I don't need it explained to me.

But apparently this needs to be explained to some college professors.

College professor wanted 'white genocide' for Christmas - CNN

Yeah, I saw that too, as well as the more recent story about his resignation: Drexel professor resigns amid threats over controversial tweets - CNN

(CNN)A Drexel University professor who received death threats after posting several controversial tweets said Thursday he is resigning because the year-long harassment has made his situation "unsustainable."

George Ciccariello-Maher, a professor of politics and global studies, had been teaching his class remotely via video conference after being put on administrative leave, a move that Drexel said was for his own safety.

The professor said his resignation is effective December 31.

"This is not a decision I take lightly; however, after nearly a year of harassment by right-wing, white supremacist media outlets and Internet mobs, after death threats and threats of violence directed against me and my family, my situation has become unsustainable," Ciccariello-Maher wrote on his Facebook account. "Staying at Drexel in the eye of this storm has become detrimental to my own writing, speaking, and organizing."

No doubt the guy is a complete bonehead, but I don't think he was truly advocating white genocide.

"White genocide" is white supremacist speak for race mixing.

I assume he was meaning it in that sense, not the literal one.
Indeed, he was:

"On Christmas Eve 2016, Ciccariello-Maher tweeted, “All I Want for Christmas is White Genocide.”[23] Ciccariello-Maher stated the tweet was sent in response to a racist backlash against State Farm Insurance for purportedly advancing "white genocide" by depicting an interracial couple in an advertisement.[24][25][26][27]

...

Ciccariello-Maher responded by stating that "white genocide" is an "imaginary concept... invented by white supremacists," adding that "It is a figment of the racist imagination, it should be mocked, and I'm glad to have mocked it." He criticized Drexel's response, which "amounts to caving to the truly reprehensible movements and organizations that I was critiquing... White supremacy is on the rise, and we must fight it by any means. In that fight, universities will need to choose whether they are on the side of free expression and academic debate, or on the side of the racist mob."[28]"
George Ciccariello-Maher - Wikipedia

I'm a product of "white genocide", myself. :D

Why? He's just a radical Marxist anti-racist and anti-imperialist activist. I don't see anything wrong with what he said, when you put it into context.

I was looking more at the form than the content. He could probably could have expressed it in a more clever, witty, and intellectually oriented manner. People who make fart noises in church don't impress me, even if I agree with the sentiment.

Fair enough, I suppose. In your face bluntness and irony isn't for everyone but I find it punk rock, personally.

Apparently that's the case.
He made a snarky, over the top, statement in defense of basic decency. And he has now lost his job.
A win for the racists, it looks to me.
