Well, how is this as a perfect example of what is wrong with the current system.

Ah......back on track.
Isn't it amazing that cops can commit the most heinous not-in-the-line-of-duty assaults & other crimes, yet
government is not only reluctant to take any action against them, but will also cover up & enable it to continue.
I'd say we need a powerful parallel system to advocate for citizens & apprehend offenders at the first sign of trouble.

Occupy Wall Street Protesters Maced Pepper Sprayed by NYPD Police - YouTube

Reporters from Fox News pepper sprayed and beaten... and these guys are trying to make the protesters look bad! You would think Fox would get an escort not a beat down... but it seems that police just hate cameras and that second amendment stuff all around.

ps... I wonder how Fox News will report on that?
Its crap like that that is the reason I have zero respect for cops. Or anyone in our judicial system for that matter.

Don't watch this video. The case of Donald Scott is one of the most egregious acts of fraud by multiple law enforcement agencies, aside from Ruby Ridge and the Branch Davidians, I've ever read about.

Actually, it's worse.

Asset Forfeiture, The Donald Scott Case. - YouTube[youtube]

It's nearly a 20 year old story but I personally do not believe the state of law enforcement has changed much in this nation.

I know some cops, even a guy who migrated from Denmark to this nation and became a police officer in a city in the county I live in and is a great guy, but the inability of the State to properly prosecute the minority who flaunt and abuse the law does speak for the entirety of the system.

It should also be noted, of anyone watch Ken Burns new documentary on Prohibition, that one of the first and most successful bootleggers was a former police officer who had bought the majority of the local police force and local politicians. Not much has changed. I would say corruption is worse today than it has ever been.

I'm hoping that the recent documentary, Battle for Brooklyn, will be available on Netflix or a streaming site soon.

This too can be fought.

Civil forfeiture is big 'business' for government, which may easily run roughshod
over people because their only recourse is within that very same government.
It can be fought.....

Careful now. I think you've linked Cato twice recently and the anti-Koch crowd might come calling.

The Policing for Profit essay is a good essay.

I wasn't. Now I am.

The Agitator is a great blog. He was a former Cato writer and Reason editor but now writes for the Huffington Post. I caught on to his blog in 2005 with the Cory Maye case he pushed while all the other media outlets were pretty much silent on that case.

Highly recommend his blog.

I just might give him a regular look-see.

Police told to arrest innocent people to meet targets - YouTube

Your thoughts about recording the acts of public 'servants'?
Has anyone had a bad experience with law enforcement?

If Laws can be enacted and enforced outside of the Constitutional framework which does not give the Public the ability to challenge them, and the higher ranking members of society can get away with murder while the common man can't, it most certainly is as much of a "Police State" as any other.

According to my spouses connections... Police are currently getting ready to bust up Occupy Boston... SWAT teams are armed, Medical teams are set up and paddy wagons are rolling in. Thus far, the protests have been totally peaceful.

ps... found this independent confirmation of what is going on. http://www.boston.com/Boston/metrod...t-moved-out/AS0JWIbXTp9Gn4jZKmfo2J/index.html

we'll see how it goes, hopefully there will be some restraint on the part of the police and people won't get hurt.
