Passenger: Was cuffed, searched over 'appearance'

From the article:
In an email to the AP, agency spokesman Scott Wintner said airport police "responded appropriately by following protocol and treating everyone involved with respect and dignity. "

How do you forcibly force someone to strip naked, let their nether regions be probed, & do it with "respect & dignity"?
Btw, Detroit cops are best avoided by any means necessary. They're well known as a pretty thuggish & corrupt bunch.
So if you want to look Islamic, it's best to do that in Ann Arbor instead of Detroit.

Wow. I'm a Military Police Soldier. You must all really hate me.
LoL... I dunno' are one of the ones that uses your position to bully, harass and otherwise hurt people who can't fight back... and then use the system to keep from being held accountable for it?

Have you ever known a fellow officer to do something morally suspect (like beat a civilian to a pulp) and helped cover up or stayed silent about it because fraternity is more important than duty?

Do you think sending a SWAT team for minor violations is reasonable?

If not, I think you're OK... I'm against abuse of power, not Police or Military personnel.

Occupy Wall Street Protesters Maced Pepper Sprayed by NYPD Police - YouTube

Reporters from Fox News pepper sprayed and beaten... and these guys are trying to make the protesters look bad! You would think Fox would get an escort not a beat down... but it seems that police just hate cameras and that second amendment stuff all around.

So far this is the only mention from Fox itself I can find... Occupy Wall Street Arrests; Fox 5 Crew and Protesters Hit by Pepper Spray, Batons

But I also found video of an officer bragging "my little nightstick is going to get a workout tonight"... apparently bragging about planning to beat civilians is all part of the fun and games.

So what exactly are you getting at with all this? That we should completely dissolve every police force in this country?

Yes...that's exactly it. What a keen & perceptive poster you are, blue eyes!
Let's replace all the cops with flower children who would put pansies in the gun barrels of bad guys.

Hmmmm.....on second thought, I can see a potential down side to that.
Perhaps instead we should watch & & alert people about abuse of authority,
& guard against unwarranted expansion of police powers. Better, eh?

Your first idea was better. And my eyes aren't blue.

Way to go... you've managed to completely miss the point and make up your own straw man to pick on.

How about actually making sure cops know it's bad to beat people up and otherwise abuse their power (you know that protect and serve thing)?
How about actually holding bad cops accountable when they do something wrong?
How about actually monitoring police activity (for their own safety as well as ours).

Unless you think it's fine for Cops to do this sort of thing carte blanche: Man With Down Syndrome in Clash With Cops | NBC Miami

Criminy!...now it's illegal & thumpworthy to have a "bulge" in one's pants?
I wonder at how obtuse someone must be to not recognize that the little fella had Down Syndrome.
(Despite @Joe's provocative question, I certainly presume that he too opposes such wrong-headed acts.)

I presume he does too... but his statements lead me to presume that he would prefer that we not question the questionable acts and simply let the watchmen keep watching themselves.

Tis my fault for inspiring a little contrarianism. After all, the thread is a one-sided carp fest about authoritarian abuses, rather
than finding solutions or looking at the positive side of The Man. (But whaddaya expect from a seething cauldron of rage, eh?)

I think there was a fair amount of discussion about the issues and possible solutions in the earlier days of the thread.

Such as better monitoring and de-militarization of police. I know I've also spoken favorably about those police officers that don't let others get away with bad behavior and I've spoken favorably about my local police and how they try to foster mutual respect between the citizens and the force and address any issues quickly and openly.
