Speaking of harassing the cops.....Me? I think the police state thing comes & goes here. By law any president or governor can declare Martial Law in response to any disaster at their discretion. The US Constitution allows police officers (not security guards) to arrest any citizen for up to 24 hours without saying why. Only a few people, such as ambassadors, are immune to that. It all comes down to how well citizens are being educated about freedoms, because the police come from the citizenry. If they stop believing in freedom, then we have a police problem. Like I said, it comes in and out of style, but usually the police are very decent. You can walk up to a police officer and ask for directions, for instance. You can even ask for a ride. Its probably a bad idea to harass them, however.
Many police have started wearing personal video cameras. I'm not sure what to think about that, yet. All the more reason to wear clean underwear.
Two Texas women are suing after state troopers subjected them to a humiliating and invasive 'roadside body cavity search' that was caught on video.
Female trooper Kellie Helleson is seen in the footage aggressively searching the private parts of Angel Dobbs, 38, and her niece, Ashley Dobbs, 24, in
front of passing cars.
The women, who claim the trooper used the same rubber glove for both of them, were initially stopped by Helleson's colleague David Farrell on State
Highway 161 near Irving after he saw one of them throw a cigarette butt out the window.
I have no problem with this policy.Statists advance gov's authority for warrantless search & seizure....

Yours is a valuable perspective, & I agree. My title is deliberately provocative, in order to attractI think Americans have much to be thankful for.
In comparison with China, America is a great place. In China there are huge punishments for even small mistakes. The ones who speak against the CCP get jailed and tortured, the government can force you to move out of your home, many people simply have no human rights at all.
In USA, the democracy is the best in the world. Americans have freedom of speech and freedom to stand and criticize the government.
Over the years, I have read Thomas Jefferson's Declaration of Independence and Thomas Paine's Common Sense from the Internet. These documents are banned in China but I took a risk to see them.
When I read this the first time, I almost began to cry. It means so much that ideas are free. That people can equal, with the rights. In China, we must recognize that we must not be afraid of different opinions, because someone might say, they have a problem, but that does not mean you can not let them speak.
Is America a Police State....??????

Come on....!!!!!!
My title is deliberately provocative, in order to attract
interest in watching our government. They are prone to chipping away at rights we value.
Criminy!
What an ironic location for such thuggery.
Apparently you could be arrested. Much of the time cops will arrest those who merely offend them, & then releaseAnd I'm still left scratching my head as to what law did they actually break......I'm here wondering if I were there with my wife could we actually be arrested for holding hands, hugging each other and giving each other a kiss......would they arrest a mother and her child if the child started dancing because he was bored...
Apparently you could be arrested. Much of the time cops will arrest those who merely offend them, & then release
them without being charged, hiding the illegality of the arrests & summary punishment behind plausible error or
even generosity (letting the "perp" go). There is no real monitoring or enforcement of this RICO behavior, but
wouldn't it be nice if cops were prosecuted for civil rights violations? As a landlord, I'd could suffer a $100,000 fine
& be sentenced to take a fair housing training course if I made an offensive remark about a protected group.
Cops should be held to at least this high a standard.
Now I'm loath to defend the vile institution that is the LAPD... and I absolutely don't put it past them to try to kill someone intentionally... but, in this case I have to reserve judgement (at least in part).Cornering Dorner in someone's home, cops exhort to "burn the f****** house down".
