The question I asked in the OP was a metaphysical question, not a political one.

I dont see gods need for existence as a metaphysical one. I answered it is political and a need for people to be sane ane comfortable with the unknown.

What type of answer are you looking for? Give an example.

God's existence is formless.
But God is also in form....God is omnipresent and is in all manifested forms as well as being transcendent to all manifested forms....man's sense of self, or soul, is the manifestation of the spirit of God...

God's transcendence and immanence are two different sides of the same coin. Besides, what relevance does this have to do with the question posed in the OP?

The notion of god is not necessary to explain anything. Also, there seems to be no reason why we need to suppose a god or gods must exist. So the existence of deity is not required in either of those two ways.

So, what is your explanation for why there is something rather than nothing?

I don't think that needs explaining in terms of some deity because it is conceivable there could be natural causes, or even that something has, in at least some sense, always existed.

My answer would generally be 'No', but with a broad enough definition of God, I suppose yes. So I got confused and answered 'Both'.

I'd have to agree with Hawking -- God isn't necessary. The phenomena traditionally attributed to God keep being explained as predictable outcomes of natural processes.

If people can handle the unknown, no. God is not needed.
Good point, but I see security as a big factor, as well.
Religiosity flourishes in times of uncertainty and insecurity -- an opiate for a fearful people.
Note how religion has diminished in the postwar, Western European societies. There seems to be an inverse relationship between social security and religiosity.

So,what exactly is this "conceivable" natural cause?

The age of Aquarius is said to be the age of Man.
A time when the darkness is being flooded with light.
A time of revealing.

It is good that we begin to grow up and leave the make believe God behind.
It is a time when we can begin to take responsibility for what we think.

The search for our source is paramount to who we are.
The journey is real.
We are living it day by day.

Who am I ?
Where did I come from ?
What am i doing here?

These questions do not go away because we declare God dead.
Once we declare the make believe God dead however, we can stop pretending we know the answers and start searching for the answers honestly.

When we stop pretending, we see that the answers are found within ourselves.
What is discovered by searching within for the answers to these questions is that we have had the answers all along.
There is no need to pretend.
We can search out the answer and decide for ourselves...
God, Humanity, Religionand science are all an extension of each other. . They all are a part of a whole. They are symbiotic.

The separation of the above listed is the reason we are all struggling to find answers .

With all due respect. .
Do you actually think humanity has all the answers?
Time exceeds humanity..

If you'd like to leave the answers up to "me" I would probably say....

Fried Chicken. .

Yup..

The answer is fried chicken..
