Is Trump About To Blow His Record Of No New Wars?

I don't think trade war strife rises to the level of ugliness of trench warfare.
But I prefer to avoid both.
Not sure I agree. Can't snap pictures of a bunch of bodies all at once but dying in a ditch because you can't afford shelter, food or medicine doesn't sound much more appealing than dying in a trench. But I digress. Yes, both should be avoided.

War with Iran will make the Iraq war look like a walk in the park.
Which war with Iran?

But I am totally with you.
The USA has committed many wars against Iran. I don't think Trump can win this one, any better than Bush won the war against Iran in the 80s. This war will probably be far worse, because weapons technology is more "advanced". And it will probably involve Russia, China, heck maybe Venezuela and Cuba and Nigeria and Mexico...
Trump has managed to create enemies around the globe for the USA. Just like he promised to do in his campaign.

I'm sure that Putin is laughing his butt off, as Trump does what Putin expected.

Trump was so keen to undo Obama's nuclear agreement that he played right into Putin's fantasy. Damned moron.

Russia is an Iranian ally.
I know that.
It's the Trump supporters who don't.
Russia is also a Syrian ally.

Putin is building a coalition of middle east countries, because he knows that power over the oil fields will result in winning the coming war with the USA.
Syria and Iran and Iraq versus Saudi Arabia and Israel. It's a no brainer.

The US certainly doesn't need Middle East Oil. We are a net exporter of oil. Most of the oil we import is from Canada and Mexico,

How does Putin gain by a war between us and Iran?
By getting control of the oil fields.

Until there are solar powered fighter jets and such, controlling the petroleum supplies will remain the key to military victory. Putin is well on his way, and Trump is selling out US security and interests. By starting a conflict in the middle east that we cannot win.
Iran can shut off the Straights of Hormuz, with Russian backing. Which Trump has guaranteed that Iran will get. That will push the price of the remaining oil market up.
How long do you think that the American gas buyers will put up with $15/gal gas, with most of the money going to Nigeria and Venezuela and China?

see post 49 and this:

How much petroleum does the United States import and export? - FAQ - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)

If Iran, Russia's ally, closes the Straits, the Chinese will be pretty pissed. They get 43% of their oil from the Middle East.

For a couple years now, he's been ramping up hostilities with Iran.
And now current events begin to smell like a nascent conflagration.

Saudi oil tankers hit by 'sabotage attack' amid US-Iran tensions
TWO Saudi oil tankers were hit by a "sabotage attack" off the United Arab Emirates, it was announced this morning - as tensions flare between the US and Iran.
The ships were struck off the coast of the port of Fujairah - with one of the tankers due to be loaded with Saudi crude oil bound for the United States.

Iran commander calls U.S. military in Gulf a target not a threat -ISNA
GENEVA, May 12 (Reuters) - A senior Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander said on Sunday the U.S. military presence in the Gulf used to be a serious threat but now represents a target, the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) reported.

The U.S. military has sent forces, including an aircraft carrier and B-52 bombers, to the Middle East in a move that U.S. officials said was made to counter "clear indications" of threats from Iran to American forces in the region.

The USS Abraham Lincoln is replacing another carrier rotated out of the Gulf last month.

"An aircraft carrier that has at least 40 to 50 planes on it and 6,000 forces gathered within it was a serious threat for us in the past but now it is a target and the threats have switched to opportunities," said Amirali Hajizadeh, head of the Guards' aerospace division.

My memory fades, but didn't he say we should get out of the Middle East?

Great article. Thanks.
Everyone knows that oil is a finite resource. The question is, when will the party actually end? I figure there will be a gradual increase in prices which will cause a gradual end to use of oil products.
In the end, "It's the economy, stupid" as they say. Economics will drive decisions about energy sources as it does everything else.
