I don't think that you understand how the global oil markets work, or the strategic value of controlling the output and distribution.see post 49 and this:
How much petroleum does the United States import and export? - FAQ - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)
If Iran, Russia's ally, closes the Straits, the Chinese will be pretty pissed. They get 43% of their oil from the Middle East.
Top 15 Crude Oil Suppliers to China
If the USA starts a war with Iran, and Iran closes off 40% of the world's petroleum shipments, and the U.S. military "needs" most of the U.S. production to supply the war effort, the price of gas could easily reach $30/gallon.
How long do you think Americans would do that, before they capitulated? About 5 minutes is my guess. Capitalism will deal with market forces. And then the USA will blame the people that they appointed to the government for the problems that they insisted on creating.
Except Trump, as we all know. He could shoot somebody in broad daylight on 5th Avenue and not lose any support. Because that's what he and his millions of Christian supporters (like @Revoltingest) are all about.
Not Putin. If that happens, Tom.… everybody loses.
And if Putin wins, Trump wins.
It's us little people, Trump refers to us as "losers", who lose.
I guess a broken clock is right, twice a day.
Tom
