Still hard to answer because discerning between falsehood due to error v intent can be hard to discern.

If you throw out a nonsense answer because you don't know the answer instead of saying, "I don't know. I'll have to look into that.", then you are lying.

He tweeted: "Love the fact that the small groups of protesters last night have passion for our great country."

Was he being honest?

I don't know how this is even a question. He is the President of the United States, the man needs to know his stuff, and he needs to be on the ball. He doesn't get a free pass on facts because he has a neat comb-over.

Does the populace, in any real sense, display that it actually values honesty?

I think honesty is no longer of that much importance to many people. It's decreasing importance seems to be a long term trend going back at least a hundred years, though, so I wouldn't blame Trump for it. At most, all he's done is accelerate it.

He's merely a symptom, not a cause. The good thing about symptoms is that they let you know there is an underlying condition that needs to be addressed. Then again, many people would rather ignore symptoms for years than face the fear of possibly having to deal with a serious issue. Is our population that person? Why do I often end posts with rhetorical questions?

Yes, incredibly. I'd dare say pathologically, as he lies about things easy to verify for no good reason (other than his most gullible followers don't even do the barest fact checking, I guess?)
Just the other day he complained in a tweet that this has been the longest delay in forming a complete cabinet in our nation's history. Even though HW Bush, Clinton and Obama had not had a complete cabinet yet. (Obama didn't until April 28th!)

I am worried that Trump has set a new low for honesty in politicians. It happened when George Wallace ran. He showed other politician you don't need to really know anything, you just need to know who to hate. Trump ran his campaign in a very similar fashion. Trump didn't need to know anything about being a president, all he had to know was people fear terrorist and they hate immigrants.

Other politicians will look at what Trump did and copy it, just like they did with Wallace and the overall political integrity of this country will slip a little bit more.

I think it's nearly certain other politicians are learning a great deal from Trump that will be put to bad use in the coming years.

While there's a great deal of truth to what you say, it is also the case that in many instances it's pretty clear someone is lying. To say that it's hard to tell in all instances, simply because it's hard to tell in some instances, is to stick your head in the sand.
I agree. I think that someone can rely so much upon external support for their identity that their perception of reality changes depending upon what compliments they get. It is a human trait, and apparently it can become an extremely strong part of a person.

If I was as dishonest and/or factually inaccurate at any of my past jobs, as Trump is at being President of the United States, I would have been fired from that job for dishonesty and incompetence. It is scary how low we set the bar of knowledge and honesty for the guy that has our nuke codes.

I keep hearing that Trump is our most dishonest President. Please give me some examples of how he has been dishonest.
What is wrong with people here, are they brainwashed Democrats? Ha. Ha. Doesn't anyone know how to do deal with the real world, the one where people work for a living? Trump has the mind of a successful businessman primarily because he was a successful businessman! This hate wall street, hate entrepreneurs, hate patriots noise has been going on every since Socialist Obama was President. Oh, Oh, I am in big trouble now. I over did it, I exercised my First Amendment rights. However, voters didn't buy Clinton's left wing idiocy, they voted for Trump to be our President. I'll take a abrupt speaking, deal making business type any day to a milk toast, back slapping politician who has never held a job in the real world (private sector).

The media has accused Trump of lying, and sometimes they're right, but mostly they lie. They are milk toast left wingers without much understanding of working men or women. You know, I am not politically correct.

I don't know if he is purposely being dishonest, I think he might actually believe the crap he says.
