Boo-h!
But that image in the signature is more offensive to me than you could imagine. Yes *more* offensive than your "Mohammad" cartoons. That image attacks me, as a Jew, not a zionist, but a Jew.
Then I apologize for not knowing that fact..

Now it's getting personal ...
Protesters close Beirut Starbucks branch

About a hundred demonstrators converged on west Beirut's branch of the Starbucks coffee shop on Tuesday and closed it down in protest over the Israeli operation in Gaza.

Protesters justified their actions by claiming that the Starbucks corporation owner donates money to the Israeli military.

The protest in Beirut's commercial Hamra street is the latest of a series of demonstrations across the Arab world since Israel launched an attack on Gaza to stop Hamas rocket fire on Dec. 27.

Customers fled the Starbucks as the protesters descended on it, turned out the lights and blocked the doors.

Protesters then raised a Palestinian flag over the shop and wrote on its window "Jewish favorite coffee."

I don't think it comes as any great surprise that this conflict is continuing and escalating. I see it here on the forum amongst members that have established a bit of a relationship with each other, somewhat respect each other and see each other, for the most part, as somewhat moderate tolerant individuals. If we can't keep from pointing fingers and dragging out centuries of wrongs done to each other on both sides, how much less possible is it that there will be a ceasefire between people who hate each other? I see posters like the one in the signature as inflammatory for sure, but she is a minority on this forum. The people we have been dialogueing with like lava and Einstien to name a few, I really like and think they are being helpful providing us with an understanding of what muslims are thinking in their area of the world. I thank them for that. The trouble is I see people like the minority on this forum as being the majority in the outside world. That is troubling to say the least.

Sometimes it takes, not understanding, but exhaustion. That and a great deal of luck. I think the initial stages of peaceful coexistence are potentially closer than might be apparent.

Oh Jay, I hope so. Is there some thing you can share with us that makes you think that might be the case?

The Star of David is the symbol of Judaism.

good post , i think finding out points of view is important and its admirable that there are Jews and Muslims who can debate this subject without it turning into abuse (its a little close at times) its a credit to those that participate and to RF as a whole, as for westerners its very few of us that have a clue what the heck is going on there and why ,so in my opinion its all good

Yes, I for one don't really understand the complexity of all the issues so it's nice to hear from those who are living in the midst of it.

Good point. Do you believe we learned anything?

It appear to be that what we learnt was that all other countries other than our own will misuse this power, but the truth is that many of them have such weapon and don’t even think in ever using them, personally I think that détente works and is an option.

The Neturei Karta have been ejected from every other Jewish community on the planet - from the most Orthodox Haredim and Hasidim to the most liberal Reform and Reconstruction.

The question is, do they have a point? From what I have read about this movement I get that they believe themselves genuine follower of Torah and that the lost of the land was divine correction and that they must remain exiled (without a physical state) till God restores them. Who exiled them from the land and why? Another interesting read was about the Jews in the Soviet Union in Lenin’s times, they got offered a state in the Soviet union, but rejected the offer.
Neturei Karta is not - as is often alleged - a small sect or an extremist group of "ultra-orthodox" Jews. The Neturei Karta have added nothing to nor have they taken anything away from the written and oral law of the Torah as it is expressed in the Halacha and the Shulchan Aruch. The Neturei Karta are fighting the changes and inroads made by political Zionism during the past one-hundred odd years. Guided by the rabbis of our time and under the inspiring leadership of the late Reb Amram Blau, the Neturei Karta refuse to recognize the right of anyone to establish a "Jewish" state during the present period of exile.
What is the Neturei Karta?

Report: Hamas agrees to ceasefire in Gaza

Palestinian sources say group's representatives in Cairo willing to accept Egypt's proposal for ceasefire in Gaza. Hamas to hold press conference Wednesday evening and present understandings reached in talks

Hamas has agreed to a ceasefire in Gaza based on Egypt's proposal, Arab sources told Ynet Wednesday. The conditions for the truce have not been published at this time.

Senior Hamas official Ayman Taha is expected to hold a press conference at 7:30 pm (GMT) in which he will present the understandings reached during the Cairo talks.

However, a Hamas leader said on Wednesday that points of difference remained over the Egyptian proposal.

"There are still points of difference on the initiative," Osama Hamdan, the Hamas representative in Lebanon, said in an interview broadcast on Al Jazeera television.

Meanwhile, the website of Spanish newspaper El Pais quoted Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos as saying that Hamas has accepted the ceasefire plan.

The report said Israel would respond to the proposal on Thursday.

Earlier in the day Egyptian news agency MENA reported that the Islamic group has responded favorably to Egypt's efforts to promote a ceasefire in Gaza.

"Hamas responded positively to Egypt's attempts to bring an end to the shedding of Palestinian blood, during the talks that were held in Cairo in the last three days," an Egyptian official told MENA.

Egypt's Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit, whose nation has been instrumental in ceasefire talks, said he had received Hamas' latest proposal and would convey it to the Israelis. Without revealing details, he indicated an agreement was near and a Hamas spokesman said the militant group had "no other choice."

Israeli official Amos Gilad is scheduled to arrive in Cairo Thursday for talks with Egypt's Intelligence chief Omar Suleiman.
We should know a bit more in a few hours and more still by this time tomorrow. I suspect that we're entering into a period of concerted face-saving on the part of Hamas. I'll be very interested to see what comes out of Iran ...
