It's sad, pathetic even, that to even speak of gun regulations--and speak nothing of banning them--gets one quickly labeled as anti-gun. It can be said, and rightfully so, our society is so stupid about guns we don't even make sure people know how to properly use, maintain, and store guns before we let them buy one. We're pretty sloppy and lax on driving laws and privileges, but even that we make sure people at least know how to drive the speed limit, signal and turn, and park, and take a written test before they are legally permitted to drive.
The gun fetish in this country has reached near psychotic levels, thanks to the endless and boundless propaganda of the NRA and the absurdly irresponsible hyperbole of politicians willing to say anything to get themselves elected. Very few of us have any actual need for a firearm. And in fact, having them only increased the likelihood that ourselves or someone else in our home will be killed or injured by it. But the gun fetishists will not even allow such common information to be proffered, let alone considered and discussed for future policy. And they really don't care how many church-goers, or grade-schoolers, or movie-viewers, or nightclub patrons, or whomever else will be killed as a result of this insane obsession we have with the idea of owning a gun.

If it isn't guns, then it'll be gas, if it isn't gas, then it will be explosives, if it isn't explosives, then it's going to be knives, and if it isn't knives, then it's going to be plastic forks and spoons.
Simply not at all logical. There is no cure-all, but there are steps that can be taken whereas we well know they can have an effect. To sit around doing nothing while expecting things to somehow improve fits all too well into Einstein's definition of "insanity".

Such a mentality is reflected in the memorial thread here, a thread that is a memorial for those who tragically lost someone to gun violence, but yet even there some people are like "good thing someone had a gun to kill someone attacking them." It's like you can't even acknowledge guns as dangerous weapons that kill innocent people and honor those wrongfully killed without someone harping on about the rare instance someone does successfully use a gun to defend themselves. To use a house fire as a metaphor, instead of working to reduce the amount of house fires through reasonable measures and sensible legislation and education, groups/people like the NRA want to use a flamethrower to go combat the issue of house fires.

I don't know about others, but if I am to be attacked, I'd much rather be attacked by a knife than a gun. At least with a knife the assailant would have to get close, there is a much greater chance of being able to defend yourself against a knife than a gun, and unless someone is intent on killing you the knife is more survivable.
A friend of mine's father, who eventually became chief of police in the Detroit suburb I grew up in, was stabbed at different intervals 17 times and survived them all.

Worst analogy of the day.
Using a gun in self defense has practical value.
Flamethrowers don't combat house fires.

If we follow such logic, we may as well have not bothered with making cars safer because people are going to be involved in crashes anyways. We might as well toss out anti-pollution and environmental regulations, because people are going to pollute anyways. And we could just go total lax on nuclear security, because there's a frightening amount of MUF already.

It's very rare though, especially when you compare it to how many times that fails.
It's far more common than most think.
Ref G Kleck's work.
Even this most recent mass murder was interrupted by an armed resister.

No more than more guns will fix the issue of gun violence.
If you were correct, than fellow poster Kathryn should've been unarmed when she used a gun in self defense.
Face facts.....there are guns & perps out there.
So choosing to be able to fight back is reasonable.
When you manage to eliminate guns from society, then we'll talk.

I understand your concern and am in no way attempting to refute it. It's just that, for the most part, I have heard fetish used in a sexual context. Unsavory visions of a gun fetish and gun fetishists sprang to mind. Please forgive.

"Fetish", as used, is intended to demonize & insult
when an argument can't be made using reason.

Nice platitude, but you didn't answer my question, did you?

Your question was:
When was the last time there was a multiple casualty mass rocking incident?

According to the story Cain most likely killed Abel somewhere shortly after 4000 B.C. and using rocks or stones as weapons was a common tactic in warfare for centuries around the world and to this day stoning is still a legal form of execution in some countries. Were/are there records of all the mass stonings and rockings over the span of all those years? probably not so we will never really know how many multiple casualty rockings there have been or when.

Let's make it really easy...what's the ratio of mass casualty incidents intentionally caused by civilians with anything other than firearms to mass casualty incidents intentionally caused by civilians exclusively WITH firearms?

It would only be useful to answer that question by listing all incidents worldwide with and without firearms also listing the gun control laws of each nation and the details into the specific circumstances of each individual case. That is a lot of research to do and I fully encourage you to compile that information and post it here for peer review.

Yep, as 40% of all the guns in private hands worldwide are held by Americans, and it's obvious they ain't making us any safer.

On top of that, the numbers of these mass shootings keeps on increasing, and sitting back and doing nothing in the gun-control area all too well fits into Einstein's definition of "insanity". All countries have mentally ill people, but when we have 20 times the numbers of homicides as compared to some western European countries, we gotta problem that goes well beyond just mental illness.

And if the Republicans truly feel that it's mainly mental illness, then why is it that the keep wanting to reduce the funding to treat it? As you well know, the "mental illness" argument is simply a smokescreen, as most of the Republicans and some of the Democrats are deathly afraid of the NRA.

Especially in a country where in reality we are powerless drones working to make the rich, richer, in an unjust an and totally corrupt oligarchy.

Prevention is the best medicine. Yes, it was interrupted by someone armed. But instead of relying on someone armed to stop an on going mass shooting, we must work towards reducing the amount of such things to begin with. But when it comes to gun regulations, the only thing we've done well is make a "tossed salad" of state laws that turn a legal carrier in one state into an illegal carrier once state borders are crossed.

I've heard her tell her story. When you look at the "big picture," such events do not happen that often, and certainly not to the extent that so many gun owners want to believe. Simply put, for the largest part of the population, wearing a sigil of Cthulhu will keep them just as safe as their gun.

I agree.
But in an imperfect system, wherein perps can get their hands on weapons,
we're each presented with a choice.....to be armed for self defense, or not.
For those capable & responsible, it makes sense to be armed.
Addressing the perps, I advise.....
- Get them mental health care.
- Strengthen the system to prevent ineligible people from buying guns.

Check Gary Kleck's research on guns used in self defense.
It's more often than you believe.

Ya, and I betcha it's really "good to hear" for all the families that have had members of their own families gunned down due to our sick love affair with guns.

They were gunned down due to people using a heavily regulated completely legal product in an illegal manner, many of which were not legally capable of owning firearms in the first place.

The comparative stats, both domestically and internationally, speak for themselves, so maybe do some studying. [google "comparative gun control studies"] OTOH, if you just want to believe in the NRA fairy-tales, that's clearly your choice.
