It's the Guns.

Not directed at me but I will take a shot. For me, it really starts with allowing the CDC to study the issue in context with everything else. As of this posting, they are not allowed to do so. Next, I would prefer a federally enacted firearm standard to be drafted (sorry it is vague but what I am getting at is that the laws vary from state to state). Right now, state laws are only as good as their neighbors. That sort of inconsistency could be an issue I would be interested in addressing.
Please explain how law's in one state governing firearms directly affect another states laws.

yes....

and shortly after.....America will be disarmed

and invaded

first rule of occupation.....disarm the public
This country is practically begging for the chains of slavery. In many ancient societies only slaves were unarmed. People should soberly consider this fact before abandoning the liberties that have been secured for them by the blood of patriots.

Then explain why other first world countries are still just as free as we are, if not more so, despite having stricter gun laws that we do? Besides, the civilian population doesn't have access to anything that can match the firepower, training, equipment, etc. that military and law enforcement possess. Life isn't a Hollywood movie.
Also, the ironic thing is about this notion is that the "gun nut" types are the ones most likely to vote a corrupt and despotic person into power if you look at their track record.

....being against bias doesn’t make a person biased bias.
"Bias" as an adjective means cut/folded diagonally.
So I made a correction.

Hey, I had to.
I've seen this so often that it's preventing my getting a good nite's sleep.
I feel better now.

Yes, you are vague. CDC? Really? You're going to have be a little more specific. What would they study? And for what purpose? What Fed laws are you talking about? This is the problem it seems. Everyone that screams gun control usually means overall or partial confiscation. Prove me wrong.

You think it's private citizens with rifles preventing invasion?

You realise your country spends $618 billion dollars per year on the military, right?
More than three times what China spends, and roughly equal to the next 8 countries combined?
and would you invade a population heavily armed
(the so called gun nuts are!)

Too many noids. When you get two you get paranoid.

I was raised in a rural world with guns, but the contemporary gun's rights move has taken on a dangerous military gun militia agenda with literally millions military guns, and a dangerous view that guns can solve problems,
not having guns would have been a different history

we could have lost and now be speaking the King's English
and calling some people 'lord'

solve the problem?
consider the last resort
and you don't have a gun

I hate this argument, I really do. It is dated and simply isn't applicable.
so you prefer to watch as your freedoms wash away.....one at a time

they are intertwined
lose one.....and the whole thing will unravel

years ago I saw a video taken in a hotel lobby in Japan
thugs came rushing in with golf clubs and robbed everyone

it was brutal

no one returned fire

With that in mind, do you think the minority of people in favor of maintaining the status quo when it comes to guns will be able to do so forever? Or do you agree with Frum that change is coming?
It is literally unthinkable that change could not be coming. The current firearms situation in the USA is as ludicrous as it is tragic.

And I take it that you see that as a bad thing? Because, trust me, not everyone would.

how about the guy that took a beating with a nine iron?

think maybe having his attacker shot at that moment would be a relief?....a good thing?

No, I do not thing that would be a good thing, nor a relief.

I suppose I might think differently were I closely involved and in the heat of the moment. I would like to believe that I am sufficiently warned and rational for that not to be the case, though.

I believe your living in the unfortunate nostalgia of an age long past. Today it represents the pranoia of a militia siege mentality.

That is the social environment of thugs living among their own direct competition, @Thief

Civilized people ought to aim higher than that.
