Joseph Smith Fraud

I made what? In any case, if I am reported, and I get dealt with, that's ok. I didn't mean to post a naughty word. I guess I didn't put enough *'s in it. But my intentions were good, and I was quoting you, anyway.

I'm ready to believe
If I ran across some dude talking into a hat, and he informed me that he is using seer stones to translate ancient text out of the hat, I would congratulate him on his choice of drug dealers. He is definitely getting some killer stuff. Actually, the I don’t find the story itself too outlandish, there a lot of crazy people on this earth, but what I do find so incredibly fascinating is the fact that so many people buy into this hogwash.

E Pluribus Unum!!!
The same tihng can be said of a person who claimed Christ spoke to him, and then wrote a bible about it.

I think a basic fact that everyone is missing is that all three Abrahamics, and probrably every religion for that matter, started out somewhere, and most thought of as nothing other than a kooky cult by the masses.

Whatever the beginings, Mormonism, like Christianity, is simply a valid religion today.

Most religions look like "hogwash" to people on the outside. You assume that anyone who "buys into" Joseph Smith's story are stupid, naive, irrational, etc. The fact is, though, that several hundred new people worldwide "buy into" it every day of the year. Some of them are uneducated, even illiterate; others are very well-educated and well-read. Some are living in poverty; others are quite wealthy. Some are young, some are old. They are men and women. They are from hundreds of different countries and are of every race. The Church is growing and it's growing quickly. I'm not saying this alone is proof of anything, but considering the fact that it started in 1830 with six members and today, less than 200 years later, claims roughly 14 million, ought to tell you that there must be something in it that appeals to such a varied cross-section of the people of the world. Maybe you ought to ask yourself why and, instead of trying to amuse yourself and everbody else with a sarcastic answer, just admit that maybe you shouldn't dismiss this religion or its founder so flippantly.

Naw. People just join because the church gifts every new member with a Fararri, a $75,000 annuity and eternal youth.

Seriously, though, the fact that this many people are joining a church that requires its members to abstain from extra-marital sex, alcohol, tobacco, tea, coffee, harmful drugs, to serve without pay in various leadership roles in the church, offer missionary service (boys age 19) and to give back 10% of their income to the church...well it does seem strange that people are joining so quickly. Not to mention teachings that we should serve others continually, be honest in our dealings, admit our faults to ourselves and change.

If it's so crazy, what's the motive?

So the religion with the most members is the correct one? What happens if another religion gains greater popularity? Does that make the new one the correct religion? More people know more about celebrities then religion. Wouldn't it be better to just worship celebrities?

Oh, I absolutely know what you're talking about. The mods deleted it, which was sad.

Please don't let my sense of humor stop you from doing something you feel is right.

It may be a generational difference, but kids my age trade mom jokes like Pokemon cards. It's really no big deal.

I should also mention that the LDS church doesn't forbid mom jokes.

now THATS humor
on a serious note, your previous remarks are no way for an aronic priest to act.
especially on this forum where your actions reflect the lds religion.

You're right. I am a representative of the church here. I should be careful, and generally am. With you, I let loose a little because you were saying things that were pretty insensitive to others. IMO, your previous remarks are no way for ANYONE to act. I apologize for not giving you an excellent perception of what a member of the church is.

Please recognize I am not called by the church to represent it on this forum, and am capable of fallacy and inappropriate behavior, and humor.

I'm not an Aaronic priest.

Some guy saying he was the son of God and could perform miracles, some guy meditating under a tree for months, some guy claiming an angel came to him, etc. Or to be more offensive it's all equally hogwash.

apology accepted. wow you must be REAL young. (under 12)

Because I'm not an aaronic priest? Here's how the age-to-priesthood advancement typically goes:

12: Deacon
14: Teacher
16: Priest
18-19: Melchizedek Priesthood (Elder)
Old: High priest

So when I say I'm not an aaronic priest, that just means I'm not 16-18 years old.
