Just for my own info but if God exists what can I do to get them to grant me a wish?

What is your religion. Follow that?

First thing is to do all you can within your power to get what you wish.

Well, given that I said "if God exists" that indicates that I don't follow a religion.

God isn't a genie in a lamp. He will do what is necessary to accomplish His will and bring about the salvation of souls. But what may help you and others towards salvation is very often not what will make you happy.

So that's a no for the Christian God but what about other gods? I wonder if they would they grant my wish?

Probably not because gods have better and more important things to worry about than momentary whims or flights of fancy. You also haven't even told us what this "wish" is.

So even though they're all good and all powerful they can't even be bothered to grant one measly wish? Maybe they're not so nice after all. The wish is too private and personal

What makes you think he grants wishes? He is God, not a genie.

Those who want God to do things for them, usually don't see the need to do anything for him.

Your wish is obviously very important to you.....but God is not in the habit of granting wishes.

But if they're all good shouldn't they want to grant me my wish and rid me of my suffering?

But God already supposedly has everything so I wouldn't be able to do anything for them

That sucks

"Good" and "nice" are not mutually inclusive.

God has a great desire to end all human suffering....if you recall, no humans were supposed to ever suffer evil when he first created them. It was they who introduced sin and suffering into the world. God could have just eliminated the rebels (only two of whom were human) and started again, but his name and reputation had been called into question, so the issues had to be settled before he could take things back to the beginning.

Since humans could not be told to be obedient to their Creator, he had to allow them to experience the full consequences of their actions. All humanity would have to learn the same lesson so that this situation could never happen again.

Everything will eventually go back to the way it was in Eden....but we have to be patient because the whole human race has to learn from this lesson. Suffering is not from God....it never was. (James 1:13-15)

But God already supposedly has everything so I wouldn't be able to do anything for them

The one thing we can give to God that he cannot demand, is our love, respect and loyalty.
You can't force someone to love you. Love respect and loyalty must be earned.....if you read the Bible, you will see much to love and respect about God.....this is turn will engender loyalty in words and actions. Understanding the reasons why he will not 'grant wishes' is all tied into the object lesson that we are living in at present.

That sucks

In the big picture...this is not just about us and what we want. Its about the proper use of free will. Its about appreciating why the world is such a cruel place to live when God never intended for it to be so. He is allowing his enemy to prove his case...that we are better off making our decisions independently of our Maker.

Being patient whilst God sets precedents for the future and allows us to make our choices regarding his laws and principles, will guarantee a future life where no one will ever have to deal with evil or the abuse of free will ever again.

Jos, here is what the Bible says ...

(Hebrews 11:6) 6 Moreover, without faith it is impossible to please God well, for whoever approaches God must believe that he is and that he becomes the rewarder of those earnestly seeking him.

(James 1:5-8) 5 So if any one of you is lacking in wisdom, let him keep asking God, for he gives generously to all and without reproaching, and it will be given him. 6But let him keep asking in faith, not doubting at all, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven by the wind and blown about. 7In fact, that man should not expect to receive anything from Jehovah; 8 he is an indecisive man, unsteady in all his ways.

Seems that faith is a must, and doubting is out.

But He's only gonna grant His own will anyway and not mine so why even bother?

Well, if your will / wish is detrimental to you and others, why should he bother?
If some dame comes to you and says, 'I want you to get rid of my husband.' Would you bother with her?
I'm assuming you are not a hitman. :)
