Let's Talk About Shiva

No. That is Vaishnavas to say so. And we don't dispute it. It is their right to say so. Shiva may be some one's principal deity. Some one else may have Vishnu as the principal deity. That is why Shaivas, Vaishnavas and Shaktas (for whom Mother Goddess is the principal deity). Brahma is the left out. He is not among the Hindu principal deities.
When I was in India in 2012, we visited what I was told is the only Brahma temple in India in Pushkar but it seems there are a very few others.

Another view will be the three kinds of problems (Vyadhis). Adhibhautika (physical), Adhyatmika (Adhi+aatmic, mental) and Adhidaivika (because of deities, happenings, chance for an atheist Hindu like me). Trident (Trishula) removes all three kind of Vyadhis (problems) with its three probes.
The trident is also worshipped standing alone, the same as Murugan's vel. In my home shrine, the trident represents Bhairava, and he is located at the doorway. Such a deep and rich multifaceted faith we share.

We Hindus will say that your categorization of Vinayaka is laughable. He is one of the wisest and most accommodating Hindus around here. Just keeps to himself and his beliefs.

True. Aryans rejected Brahma/Prajapati around 2,500 BCE. He had five heads, but one was cut by Rudra.

Interestingly, Brahmā is still embraced by Indonesian Hindus. Balinese Hindus see him as a manifestation of their supreme and incomprehensible deity: Sang Hyang Tunggal, the Divine Oneness. In Javanese Śaivism, Brahmā is an aspect of Sadāśiva. Hindus on those islands give Brahmā their worship just as they give Wisnu, Siwa, and others their worship.

I think you mean 1500BCE :D
No. I definitely mean 2,500 BCE when the Aryans had not yet arrived in India. It is a changeover from Orion (Mrigashiras) to Pleiades (Krittikas) in the Aryan calendar. This happened because of precession of equinox. In the sky they saw Orion is not the leading constellation on their New Year day, that is vernal equinox, but Aldebaran (Rohini). They thought Prajapati has erred. He was accused of incestuous intent and the story goes that Rudra has cut his head. Some time later, even the orthodox accepted that the year begins with Pleiades. It took time for the orthodox to change their views. The change is finally recorded in Taittiriya Samhita sometime around 2,250 BCE. A later change in this millennium, through the efforts of Bhaskara 1 (600 CE), changed the beginning of the year constellation to Aries (Ashwinis). It is easy to check the leading constellation in different eras with the use of astronomical apps like Stellarium.

Yeah, they do and that is no problem. Worshiping any God or Goddess is a Hindu's choice. Only that he/she should be from Hindu pantheon.

Wikipedia says Aldebaran was closest to vernal equinox 5000 years ago?

In any case, the incestuous story of Brahma lusting after his own daughter has stood the test of time.

Yeah, that is the time I am talking about, give and take 500 years.
Yes, stories many a times do not die. See, Avesta talks about a deluge by snow (ice-age).

"O fair Yima, son of Vivaŋhat! Upon the material world the evil winters are about to fall, that shall bring the fierce, deadly frost; upon the material world the evil winters are about to fall, that shall make snow-flakes fall thick, even an arədvi deep on the highest tops of mountains."

A chance to give my thoughts on Shiva? Wonderful. Shiva means darkness. Like the darkness of the Brahman. Darkness of Braham, is that scary? No it is peace, Let me explain

Space-time is eternal. It both has existed before anything else/does during/will after and each moment exists forever. Because of this it is the one thing left to create the reality. And it creates reality, cocreatively, with matter/energy. It is intangible and tangible. We know it’s creatively because they compliment each other, thus monotheistsic religons are in big part myths.

The Void is overwhelmingly positive when not taking things for granted. Badness dulls over time and fertilizes goodness as well as is rather rare in actuality. Happy Sun. It is bliss. Consciousness is composed of quantum stuff. Quantum stuff is space-time, quantum foam, the background and it is empty. It is an illusion composed of quantum phenomenal; nothing, which is small somethingness, like the rest of reality. And it is, regardless of your flawed definition, the acting, and thus real, background.

The void is something to feel mystified to be in, which is why I have decided the tome I am writing will be dedicated in part to this idea by explaining the broad world we inhabit and the celestial sea which that inhabits.

Shiva is darkness, Shiva is the void!

Everything is composed of compounds, molecules, atoms, quarks etc and voiduousness. These seemingly nonvoiduousness is actually the void contorted violently into ever condensing states. These seemingly nonvoiduousness stuff is composed mostly of Void. And the Void, what we are full in is the Void, is the Quantum Field.

Think of it this way, what is a pot? Is it clay in a u shape all the way around? No it needs the air. What does the air need to be itself? Voiduousness. The Quantum Field is the Ground of Reality. It's who we are, Shiva, Darkness. Darkness! Darkness that allows for light.

The picture is for humors whomever may find it.

Surely, Why not?

"na mṛityuh āst amṛitaṃ na tarhi na rātryā ahna āsītpraketaḥ l
ānīdavātaṃ svadhayā tadekaṃ tasmāddhānyan na paraḥ kiṃ canāsa ll
tama āsīt tamasā ghūḷamaghre.apraketaṃ salilaṃ sarvamāidam l
tuchyenābhvapihitaṃ yadāsīt tapasastanmahinājāyataikam ll"

(Death was not then, nor was there aught immortal, no sign was there, the day's and night's divider;
That One Thing, breathless, breathed by its own nature, apart from it was nothing whatsoever.
Darkness there was, at first concealed in darkness this All was indiscriminate chaos;
All that existed then was void and form less, by the great power of Warmth was born that Unit.)
Nasadiya Sukta, my guess, 1,000 BCE

It was a special kind of darkness, darkness of void, since day and night did not exist. then.

'twas. First the big bang, then the gradual forming of our universe with many other big bangs everywhere else in infinity.
All that existed then was void and form less: by the great power of Warmth was born that Unit."
What is the Unit?

tapasastanmahinājāyataikam: Parsing gives me: "tapah astan mahinā ājāyata aikam"

Word-joining creates problems and beauty in Sanskrit. Five words morphed into one and beautiful flow! I am not a Sanskrit scholar. Know a little of it. This is how I will translate it:
"Heat there the powerful created one" or "Heat there, created the powerful one (the agent of creation)".

My interpretation, when I see words combined as one in Tamil, is that it can make more sense when it is read backwards, but also making 3 divisions instead of five, and then joining.

What then be interesting is starting with “one”, followed by “powerful creator/soverign”, followed by “heat, there”.

Except “heat, there” could also be translated as “light, 8”, or the “8th light”.

So, I read the word as the 8th light (or birth) becomes one with the creator (most powerful) and no other.

Not knowing the context of course, I only stab in the darkness ;)

I know, I know, individual biases. :D
Gods are roundly rejected in Nasadiya Sukta with:
"The Gods are later than this world's production. Who knows then whence it first came into being?"
(arvāgh devā asya visarjanenāthā ko veda yataābabhūva ll)
Our discussion has made me start a new thread here: Seasonally, December 25th has already slipped by one month.

Astrology is very interesting, it is not a coincidence Jesus was born in the age of Pisces.

Always ready to beautify your atheistic words thatha :)

By that I mean, the previous “one word” is to be read forward and backwards, meaning from the 8th light becomes one with the creator, since one creator is from whence the 8th light is.

If he was born two thousand years ago, then it was Aries and not Piscium.
But they could have created a more believable story in 2,000 years rather than - born to a virgin into whom a ghost breathed.
