Liberal Christians: Why is it bigoted for Christians to believe they’re part of the true religion

I agree with this statement.

So in your opinion, at what point does one claiming that they are right and stating that all others are wrong cross the line into intolerance? At what point, in your opinion, does this become bigotry?
I think you hit the nail on the head there. You answered my question before I posted it. Interference in beliefs would be necessary for intolerance.

So where are we drawing the line on interference? Clearly the consensus ITT is that simply telling someone what they believe is wrong isn't being considered interference.

It crosses the line into intolerance once they voice or act upon the idea that others should not be allowed to be different (or that they are lesser humans for being different, I suppose).

Okay. You make a valid point. I'll concede my position and agree. That said...

"Bigot" may be too strong. Might "deluded" be better?

Yes.

when a conservative Christian says that Christianity is the one true religion, you call them bigots. But, if someone from a different religion says the same thing about their religion, you affirm them.

Hypocrisy? Political bias? Humanist hatred?

I think it would be helpful to give us a list of what traits make one a liberal Christian, in your opinion. It would certainly help me.

Humanist, antagonistic to scripture, constant negative views of traditional beliefs, and more appreciation for people outside the faith Thant their conservative brothers and sisters

When I was a liberal Christian I did no such thing--you're making unwarranted blanket statements. Intolerance is intolerance, no matter who from.

Let’s look at the definition of bigot.

person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions

The verse that comes pretty close to that is the most me that says “i am the way nobody goes to the father except through me”. That statement, a lot of non-Christians have issue with. I don’t think it is bigoted but a lot of zealots take that statement to the extreme that all other religions are of the devil. That still doesn’t necessarily spell intolerance but I can see how it can be taken as such. Tolerance is allowing people to believe as they wish which I think most Christians are ok with. Tolerance doesn’t mean agreeing with everything.

Antagonistic, just in disagreement, or honestly curious?
Maybe the liberals are just more curious, more willing to explore their tradition, less threatened by the possibility of uncovering inconvenient facts, and generally more secure than those conservatives who fear questions or research.

Isn't every religious person in disagreement with the scriptures of other faiths? How many are able to intelligently discuss or defend the particulars of their own beliefs? It seems to me the liberals welcome discussion, while the conservatives fear and, therefore, condemn it.

A "negative" view of a traditional belief I don't see as necessarily antagonistic. I see it as fertile ground for discussion.

"Humanist?" What possible objection could you have to humanist values? How are you defining "humanist?"

Humanist States Man is inherently good. That goes against Christian teachings. It opens the door for apologist mentality

Who affirms this? I believe the Way is true, but I don't think Christianity has a monopoly on it.

Because it's alright to bash Christians left right and centre
So SinSaber is contributing to the Christian bashing by posting thread after thread of how evil we libs are?

Have you tried criticising Islam without someone calling you an Islamophobe, bigot or a racist?
Much criticism about Islam, I find, is completely hypocritical. You can see this in videos where people take a "quran" and quote from it and people find it atrocious and then they reveal it's from the bible. THAT is my issue, not criticism of Islam in general. All the Abrahamics have plenty to answer for.

It is said that we are to be judged as we judge others. The solution to being judged is blatantly obvious.

A "negative" view of a traditional belief I don't see as necessarily antagonistic.
I'm sure he doesn't feel antagonistic to Judaism. Apparently, we are supposed to keep tradition just so long as it's not that old. If we wanted to go hardcore old school, shouldn't we be worshiping Mesopotamian pre-Jewish pantheons? The Abrahamics are FOUNDED upon ditching tradition.

Humanist States Man is inherently good. That goes against Christian teachings.
Speak for yourself. If you and certain biblical authors want to self-hate, that's not our problem.

It goes against cult teachings not Christian ones. Liberals study the Bible. That's why we're Liberals. If you wanted to impress me you'd study it, too; but then we wouldn't be having this conversation I think.

Man is inherently good because God created man. God is good, and everything He made, He declared good. Any other perspective on God's wisdom, intentions, or even actions would negate that God is good.
