Men in the West are dressed in full; women are dressed half , quarter or less

I was talking about why men wear long pants. In the West that is seen as more sexy.
And because people in the West think women are more sexy showing her body, that is why women are more likely to do so.

Each dresses to look better according to cultural perspective.

I live on the west and never heard of this

Actually, that was the general argument against every advance in Women's rights from voting to pants to birth control and everything in between.

Although, it is amusing that Para seems to be implying that it's science's fault.

I don't think it has got anything to do with science.
There are people who think that science is the be-all and end-all of everything. This is yet another field, in my opinion, that is out of the scope of science. Science is a secular tool used where it is needed to be applied.

I'm not sure what it means for science to be the "be-all and end-all of everything," considering that there are many branches of science and none of them are supposed to be accepted without constant examination and review.

But the issues that have been discussed in this thread — and other related issues concerning cultural values, societal norms, etc. — appear to fall more within the realm of the social sciences rather than the natural ones. Perhaps some people use the word 'science' interchangeably with 'natural science', which I don't think would be entirely accurate when you consider that the natural sciences are only a subset of the whole scientific body.

As I understand from the posts in the thread; it is not an issue related with science anyway; at least no-one has claimed it to be as such.

Men and women in the West both were used to be dressed in full to somewhat equal degree up-to the nineteenth century.

What factors lead to the present change? Is this change beneficial for the humanity?
Under normal summer attire, guys are wearing t-shirts and shorts, just like the girls. I'm not sure why you'd consider that "fully dressed" but only "half-dressed" for a female.

Yes, on average, women wear less amount of fabric than guys, but that is more of a cultural fashion trend than anything really more meaningful. Do you consider Middle-Eastern men to be slutty, or immodest, because on average, they wear less amount of fabric than females in their culture?

(Also, it really irks my tater when around here, I'll see a female in full burka, but her male companion will be in modern western shorts and a t-shirt. I mean, at least be consistent!)

I must be playing too many video games because I read this not as "fabric" but as "armor". :areyoucra

Bikini mail never made any sense, thankfully in the last decade video games are moving towards a big trend of portraying women as pragmatically dressed and fleshed-out human beings and not so much as sex objects.

The implication was there. Do you or do you not find it a disturbing trend? Do you think females should be wearing more clothing? If so, why?

And what about the rest of my post? Guys routinely wear just as much (or little) clothes as women. In fact, the last I checked, females nearly always have to wear a top, while guys go around shirtless at will.

It is one's own decision as to how one dresses. I wanted to know as to why after nineteenth century women are usually less dressed than men in the West. What factors lead to it?
One factor, I think, could be that due to world wars; men got more killed in the wars and there were more women and less men; so there was a competition in the women to attract the men.
I think this has resulted into ultimately husbands cheating their wives sexually; more divorces; more family break-ups etc..

Yeah guys in "the west" are just fine going around without a shirt and do so frequently enough that shops need signs to request that men put on on before going inside.
Heck, I had a neighbor who routinely hung out and even mowed his lawn in only a speedo and a straw hat.

But hey, why let little facts like that get in the way of anything.

That is an interesting hypothesis; it could certainly be a factor in the UK. After the world wars an awful lot of women were left widowed and like you say, a major gender imbalance was created because of it. Of course that could have been avoided if they’d had women fighting on the front lines as well.

The men would certainly have had greater opportunity to cheat with plenty of single women around. And yeah, the women would be in competition with more women than before so I could this having some truth to it.

Yeah, except for the fact that this trend doesn't hold up when compared to other major wars.
You didn't see it after the US Civil war wiped out almost a generation of young American men.

Nor did you see it after the Revolutionary wars in the USA, France or anywhere else.

The 19th century wasn't the only century to see major deaths among men in war.

Plus, it's not as if there is any shortage of males today. We are at the standard 50-50 ratio.

That’s all true, but I’m not saying it’s a direct consequence of such wars. I’m saying that a gender imbalance would provide incentive for such a change because of the increased competition. It might be a factor, although it would obviously be one among quite a number of social factors.

Why not sign for the women as well? Why discrimination?

Because if a woman goes without a top she gets arrested, no sign needed. :sarcastic

I don't know why they discriminate against women when it comes to wearing a shirt. I guess it's because they are afraid of boobs. ;)

Well, if you are going to choose a social factor as a primary cause then I would say it's the fact that during the 19th century women stopped being the property of men and were gradually granted the same rights as men.

Women in the west don't have to worry about their brother, father, male cousin or whomever deciding to beat her to death for showing her ankles. Though for a while it was scandalous for a woman to wear pants, but let's face it... pants are comfortable and practical, so we wore then anyway.
