Merkel's era is over

Meloni goes to thr outskirts of Rome, talking to the real people. The baker, the fisherman, the butcher, the grocer.
Is she going to do anything to make their lives better?
Have any of her fellow fascists done anything to make their lives better?

Or do you believe it only matters how much a politician pretends to care for people who look like them?

You don't care about another EU member state?
Then why did you vote Remain?
I'm not British. I don't care about states, period. They are abstract legal entities and therefore of no concern to me.
What I care about are the people who live there.

Not caring is not the EU spirit. The EU spirit is empathy towards any EU country.
Italians do care if some tragedy happens in Germany or in Spain, or in Slovakia.
And yet you don't even care about all the people who live in Italy - specifically, migrants and refugees.
How can you reconcile these two positions?

I don't have any problem admitting this.;)
That is...I am proud of being European, and I believe in the European Civilization founded upon European values.
I speak besides Italian 4 European languages English, German, French, Spanish.
I would never learn a non-European language.

Yes. Her program is very rich in helping people be hired by private enterprises.
And in helping people starting a new business.

And btw...Italian dems do not go to those Roman outskirts...they are refined and cultured, they do not want to meet what they call boors and peasants.

Do you know any independent sources showing this to be true, or are you simply taking her word for it?

Aren't Universal Human Rights supposed to be part of those "European values"?
Or do you not consider them to actually apply to all human beings?

I was not brought up to care about non-European cultures.
That's sad. There are so many great people and wonderful things to be found outside Europe!

A coalition isn’t very strong

Coalitions are literally the norm in Germany and the last time a coalition broke was in 1982.
You are just talking out of your behind.

the french presidential elections are next and le penn is ready for it whereas I don’t think macron is ready for anything.

Glory be to the two-round system eh?
Keeps the disgusting fascists at bay.

So coming from my behind it’s still possible.

Sure It does but year on year they get stronger, have you ever wondered why?,here in our little country they are not even contenders for which I’m soooo glad, merkel made a serious error, incompetent really, still your country is holding the baby and the rest of Europe has the siblings.

Xenophobes and fascists actually took substantial hits in the polls throughout Europe during the COVID era, and are only resurging now that they've started to throw in their lot with the anti-vax crowd, putting yet another lie to the assertion that their goal has ever actually been to help people in need.

The Eu is doomed to collapse.
Angela Merkel worships a deity called Euro
She has served this deity throughout sixteen years.
Scholz has already showed that he cares about the German workers, not about that deity.

I do not believe Angela Merkel believes in the God I believe in.

You know some foreigner has no clue at all about German politics when this foreigner claims that the pretty conservative social-democrat cares about the workers.
Especially if nothing has happened yet.

A simple "no" would have been enough.

The ancient Romans didn't dismiss everything from outside Europe as meaningless and unworthy.
They didn't even have a concept of "Europe" to begin with.

In Italy the lounge-loving and carefree Left is 100% based upon double standards.
Being proud of being an African = rightful
Being proud of being European = racist.

This disgusting doublestandardism has led many Italians to hate the Left with perfect hatred.

Your outrage would look more authentic if you hadn't declared all non-European culture as worthless to you just a couple of posts ago. As it is, it looks very much like you are objecting to people rightfully calling you out for a poorly thought out disgust of people and communities from outside your cultural boundaries.

This disgusting doublestandardism has led many Italians to hate the Left with perfect hatred.
So left and right are obsolete labels, but "the Left" is the worst and deserves "perfect hatred".
Yea, that makes absolutely no sense.

They did take a hit and are indeed “resurging” now, even though I think le penn will fail, the far right in France is a substantial amount of people,of course not to forget Austria Germany who have far right parties and of course poland and Hungary, what fuels this rise of the far right in europe do you think?.

Right now, it's the popularity of anti-mask and anti-vaxx movements.

If we want to look at the bigger picture, it's more complicated, and I don't think anybody really knows for sure. There are different theories and models to explain the endemic popularity of xenophobic authoritarianism, but I think they all fall short in one area or another. One thing we should not brush aside is that these kinds of movements have been popular before, so this is probably not something unique to our current situation.

I personally think the key to their attraction is that they do not offer a particular, central ideology like e.g. Marxist movements did, nor do they coalesce around specific policies or sets of policies that people would want to enact like e.g. modern Green or environmentalist movements, but that they rather center around what I would call a "politics of resentment" - a kind of attitude or emotional core of resentment and slighted pride that appeals to a lot of people for different reasons. We can go over this in detail later on if you like, but I believe that people have a wide variety of motivations why they support these movements or sympathize with their ideas, and the vagueness of xenophobic-authoritarian ideology allows for a broad spectrum of beliefs and groups who all share these resentments.
