Moksha and who is "worthy" of it

Poeticus

My brother as you know there are some (not all) principles in other religions like Islam which are against the main basic principles of "Dharma"! So there is an advantage to the people who are following Hinduism because it's easier for them to have faith in those principles of "Dharma" defined in Hinduism!

There are some people who are not Hindu e.g. John Abraham (famous Indian actor) became vegetarian, because he didn't like to eat meat of the innocent animals. So unknowingly John Abraham followed one of the principles of "Dharma".

Truly there is in this world nothing so purifying as knowledge.- (Bhagwad Gita [4.38])

Namaste, Arpan:

I agree with you. The last part of my sentence was to show that Moksha doesn't confine itself to one particular setting. It is, after all, applicable to any person of any background who knowingly or unknowingly abides by "Dharma". If Moksha was not all of that, I juxtaposed the situation by showing the absurdity of Moksha-Confined-to-Hinduism by jokingly stating that I would have converted to Islam by now. It was just a joke.

Namaste, Only by following veda , you will get ur self. Not by other means . By following one or two principles, you are not going to become a hindu or follower of veda.

Islam or Christianity won't work ! :)

God who is everything has made one tiny little portal where only part of him/her-self can creep through.

yup that is it.

Growing up in a town where there is a music program dramatically increases your chances of becoming a decent musician. But not having a music program by no means means that you can't become a decent musician. it just decreases the likelihood somewhat.

Vedic dharma is the science of self. This dharma is not the system of beliefs.
Other man-made religions are nothing but beliefs and imagination of various people's mind.

But hindu dharma is sanatana dharma, which is created at the beginning of lord bramha's day.....

Yes ,

No doubt sikhs, jains, Buddhists are hindus. But unfortunately, their Hindu ancestors got deviated from vedic path and principles .

It will be very great and joyful if they once again join us :) I strongly feel they should be with us. Come and join ! Absolute truth is not far from us !

Hare krishna....

It would be definitely great and joyful if all people follow "Dharma". It would be as if we are living in "Satyug".

I'm certainly not following dharma. I am certainly trying to follow dharma. But my heartfelt congratulations to those of you who are.

some of us are with you , ....

but we must acknowledge that there were reasons for the formations of dharmic off-shoots , but not every one can see that ,

simmilarly maitra varuni ji says ...
''Moksha doesn't confine itself to one particular setting. It is, after all, applicable to any person of any background who knowingly or unknowingly abides by Dharma"

if we each follow our dharma it is perfectly possible that moksha may be atained ,
it is through selfless surrender to that dharma that we atain moksha

I feel I owe you l all an apology. I should have never made this thread the arguments and the hateful comments worry me. But these discussions have helped me form my own answer. Simply refer to my signature. Sometimes I forget it is there but I feel it is a good answer. God does not have a religion, man does. Some of the judgemental statements were one of the biggest reasons I left christnity. The idea that god would only select a small group of people in a world of colors, cultures, languages, and people seems very ungodly, sounds more humanly. As my comment says truth us one many names though. We say moksha others say something else. Now I do agree some religions(Hinduism being the prime) are far superior in assisting with the process. Other religions speak openly against the idea, yet I don't feel this means impossibility just impractability. It is not Impossible for a christian to attain moksha its just not practical. In the end my faith lies with the gods I worship not in the words I read in books. I believe they have the power to reach out and speak to anyone regardless of creed they choose to follow, I believe in the strength of the gods not man. But this is just my thoughts and I could be wrong dead wrong. If I am I will return in another life and try again. That is okat because that is our fate.

if one person here learns something then it has been worthwhile ,

but in truth the appologies should come from those who are responcible for the hatefull comments .

No reason to apologize. It is certainly not you who have been rude and hateful.

But I could not agree more. It is silly to think that only one group of people will reach moksha. And yes that is one of the reasons that Christianity and other religions that make claims like that loose credibility in the first place.

If you do believe in God and believes that he/she is behind everything then why would only part of it be able to understand that it/they are part of God?

It's kind of like saying that your body is your body. But only the right foot is allowed to acknowledge this. IF and only IF it wears a red sock.
Should it wear a blue sock. It does not matter how well it walks, or how well it sits in shoes, it is not considered part of the body.
As for the rest of the body parts? Nope they are not feet. (and would never be able to wear socks, red nor blue.) So nope. Not part of the body. No.

Arguing over religions is just as ridiculous. It's elitist and rude.

 Yes, yes ! Anyone can attain their self ! But the dharma strictly should be vedic dharma ..:)

Because Upanishads say ' only knowers of bramhan and veda attains that supreme state ..Not others. '

You already know that many rules of Islam directly conflict with the principles of "Dharma". So obviously you were joking... :)

So now for another one of my complicated questions

Do you think moksha is attainable by other religions? If so which ones?

If not what do you think happens to "good" people who have "matured" spiritually, do they reincarnate as a Hindu?

In my understanding, Moksha is best understood as merging with the absolute/Brahman. It happens when one no longer feels himself as a separate entity in the universe. His ego is gone and no longer wants to play in in Maya. He then experiences infinite being-bliss-awareness (a state we can not grasp).

I believe the way of thinking that leads to this path can be learned by earnest seekers of any major religion. It’s more about the person than the religion; his heart and mind to love all as One..

That being said, I personally think the cream churned through Sanatana Dharma is the highest level of understanding man has attained.

Oh okay there you go. Thanks for the correction

Course I could be wrong. Dead wrong. :) Wiki more or less agrees with me though, I think. Not that it matters much way down here in the cesspools and dross of the mind.
