Killing babies: right or wrong?
It's much worse than anything I can come up with off the top of my head. It'd take a very rare (and likely very bizarre) situation where killing babies was the best option.

But hypothetically... if killing, say, 10 babies would somehow save 100 other babies, then I suppose that killing the 10 babies might be the right thing to do.

I tend to agree.

Seems to me that the OP is a False Dilemma.

BTW, Autodidact, are you pro abortion or pro life?

hey now, dont be unfair. the correct terms are 'pro-choice' and 'pro-life'. someone supporting a persons right to a medical procedure is not necessarily encouraging that medical procedure, it's simply valuing a persons right to it.

(unless you were just joking and i missed it, i did just wake up)

It's what I call a "trap question" we say yes, it is wrong and she says "then your God is immoral". I fell for it once or twice but not anymore. :) BTW, Autodidact, are you pro abortion or pro life?

I'm like most Americans, pretty much in the middle, leaning pro-abortion rights, of course not pro-abortion. I don't think anyone is pro-abortion.

this is the kind of thing our brains still aren't developed enough to understand. humans in groups this size and with a world population this big is way too much for our brains (wired to form small groups mostly of family) to compute. we're prototypical in that way. when we dont have to see the baby-killing, and our babies aren't being killed, we can more easily ignore the empathy that would make it uncomfortable. we're only used to protecting the babies we see, and a lot of people are good at extending that out further, but, when we get into the fringes of our capacity to actually feel grouped, the instinct is not as strong.

True.

Just the ones that will one day grow up and support abortion. The rest should be granted life.

Then the LORD ... said to him, “Follow him through the city and kill, without showing pity or compassion. 6 Slaughter the old men, the young men and women, the mothers and children, but do not touch anyone who has the mark. Begin at my sanctuary.”

You are my battle-ax and sword," says the LORD. "With you I will shatter nations and destroy many kingdoms. With you I will shatter armies, destroying the horse and rider, the chariot and charioteer. With you I will shatter men and women, old people and children, young men and maidens. With you I will shatter shepherds and flocks, farmers and oxen, captains and rulers.

Whoever is captured will be thrust through;
all who are caught will fall by the sword.
16 Their infants will be dashed to pieces before their eyes;
their houses will be looted and their wives violated.

Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, 18 but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man.

The people of Samaria must bear their guilt,
because they have rebelled against their God.
They will fall by the sword;
their little ones will be dashed to the ground,
their pregnant women ripped open.

At midnight the LORD struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all the livestock as well.

Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy[a] all that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys.

Right or wrong?

Well, while I'll await further studies and research before jumping off my agnostic fence on this particular subject, I am certainly going to be more thoughtful about what I toss into the trash from now on.

I mean, I don't want to brag or anything, but my brain is big enough to effectively attach itself to 213 various groups. Anything past that, and I have to start leaving some groups behind. If I join one more record club, I'll probably forget the names of my parents.

No, nobody is pro-abortion. Pro-choice is certainly more descriptive.

On the contrary, while everything I've said in this thread up to this point has been in jest, I honestly believe that in the vast majority of cases abortion is indeed the best option (due to overpopulation, unfit parenting, unfit environment, etc.) So the fact that I think it that should be encouraged would make me pro-abortion, I guess. Of course, I don't see it as an alternative to birth control and would much rather people prevent pregnancies in the first place.

For this thread...
Autodidact.
However, she did not make you EVERYONEs judge, just the judge of those who kill babies.
I suppose you realize I have tried to kill that thing you have running around on my screen. :D
