moral question

I suppose you realize I have tried to kill that thing you have running around on my screen. :D
I know that there have been several people tell the same thing.
I even move it around in my signature from time to time for a little variety.

Auto's a sweetheart. Not exactly compassionate of willful ignorance, but her morality is sound.

I have learned tons from her and Painted Wolf about evolution.
I honestly admire their patience with creationists.

Uhhh, while I certainly would never presume to speak for anyone else, I have to say that I interpreted the post by Pagan Buddhist to be comical, downright farsical, as a matter of fact.

It seemed to be making sly, subtle mockery of those dismissive souls who refuse to take a stance on certain questions of moral consequence, insisting we each and every one lack the appropriate moral positioning and authority to tell another what is right and wrong for themselves.

For example, as a response to the question of whether it is good or bad to kill babies, a similarly farsical response might be, "I'm in no position to tell people whether it is right or wrong to kill babies. People are free to do whatever they want." A bit absurd, right? As I think just about any rational person would recognize we can't extend to each other, whether by compact or constitution, the personal liberty of going around killing babies.

Ehh, maybe I am reading too much into it. And if the issue is ever put to a vote, since I am no longer a baby, at least by the standard definition, I will demand my right to kill 'em if others are granted the same. I want my equal rights to kill babies!! Liberty or Death!!

On the contrary, while everything I've said in this thread up to this point has been in jest, I honestly believe that in the vast majority of cases abortion is indeed the best option (due to overpopulation, unfit parenting, unfit environment, etc.) So the fact that I think it that should be encouraged would make me pro-abortion, I guess. Of course, I don't see it as an alternative to birth control and would much rather people prevent pregnancies in the first place.

Yes, if you think condoms, the pill, vasectomies etc. are superior to abortion, you're not really "pro-abortion" in my eyes. I'm definitely pro-condoms and pro-vasectomy, on the fence re. the pill and other pharmaceutical interventions (due to increased health risks), and in favour of abortion in the first trimester (before the development of a central nervous system) when all else fails. I'm on the fence for the second trimester except in cases of severe disability or danger to maternal health. I'm against any procedure to abort a viable baby that could survive outside the womb (i.e. third trimester), again except in the case of extreme danger to the mother's life where the infant's life can not possibly be preserved.

So, it's a lot more complicated than "pro-abortion", but what the heck. If that's what they're calling it these days I suppose I'll find a way to soldier on somehow.

A revolting ode to moral relativism......

The problem with moral authority
is that it requires majority.
Universal it's not.
It depends on whose got
brute force to outgun the minority.

Killing babies: right or wrong?

Why does it have to be subjected to the indulgencies of moral tribulation?

Kill them all!!!:sw:

On a more serious note, what if the baby has no chance at surviving?

I don't see how it could be anymore wrong than killing another man (for any reason).

Alright let me take a crack at the abortion thing. It's really not my business what a woman does with her body. I believe it could be immoral, but at the end of the day, it's not my business.

Would you all do me a favor and take the abortion debate to another thread? Thanks. This thread is about killing babies that have been born.

Sorry, nothing is going to make me want a guy's balls.

I sure do! Yuck. But, as we say in my house, "To each her own,' said the old woman as she kissed the cow."

From killing babies to ball sacks . . .

I gotta tell you people, while as an agnostic I'm still sitting the fence on the whole issue of God's existence, I certainly will declare a winner in the "Most Interesting Threads to Read While Eating a Linzie's Italian Grinder" catagory.

You atheists take the award, hands down.
