Day after tomorrow-- beautifully told near-future global warming warning film.

Donnie Darko-- another Christian sacrifice movie well-hidden beneath a great fantasy story. I knew Jake Gyllenhall would go far after seeing this movie..

The Jacket--yet another Christian sacrifice movie although Adrian Brody would most definitely deny it. It has an amazing sound track romantic score of just four notes but it works..

"Transamerica - Felicity Huffman is amazing." I second that opinion. Talk about acting..she did a truly astonishing job.

Hero--my all-time favorite Chinese movie. It really puts Kurosawa's "Ran" to shame as far as stylistic art achievement.

To Live--another great Chinese film. These Chinese are cranking out some great works of cinema art.

Rocky--people were posting comments about the Rocky movies which I will add a bit of movie trivia. Tally Coppola (Talia Shire) really was into ice skating as portrayed in Rocky I. I dated Tally briefly in college when she and I were taking theatre arts classes together. I used to visit her at her brother's Francis' home in Brentwood where he was just breaking into big time writer for the movie Patton. Last year I asked the Coppolas to help me find a documentary film-maker who would document the Story of Paxcalibur but they weren't interested in dealing with an old boyfriend of Tally's turned religious fanatic.. go figure..;)

"End of the Spear" and "Beyond the Gates of Splendor".

At the top of the list of movies recommended here are two about the same subject, a true-life story of New Tribes missionaries in South America making first contact with an extremely ferocious tribe known and feared as killers up and down the Ecuador jungle river where the story takes place. The movie is called "End of the Spear" and its accompanying documentary is called "Beyond the Gates of Splendor".

I just watched "End of the Spear" the other day----some of the acting was "forced", but, overall, it was very well-made and very, very moving. I highly recommend it. I cried at parts.

As soon as I saw the women with native "bras" on in "End of the Spear" I knew the movie makers were not going to be completely accurate. But they did stick to the true story which is detailed in the documentary "Beyond the Gates of Splendor".

I used to think my aunt was part and parcel of the Christian missionaries who went in converting tribes to Christianity and in the process destroyed their native spiritual heritages. This mistaken view of mine actually helped propel me in my work with local Native Americans where I live. (see http://paxcalibur.org/headwate.htm)

But when I saw what the missionaries in the End of the Spear movie were actually doing, I was amazed how I had misjudged my aunt's work. She was one of these incredibly brave missionaries who couldn't take the first contact role after five missionaries were killed by these killer tribes in Bolivia in 1943 which was mentioned in the documentary Beyond the Gates of Splendor. These missionaries were converting real killer tribes feared by all others into peaceful Christians. They were stopping tribal homicides that were actually genociding tribes by their members.

And no Bible, no Christian book tells this story of Christian commitment better than the real people doing the work of Christ.

I just saw Casino Royale. I was a little worried it would not live up to the hype I had been hearing, but I thought it really was a fantastic movie.

Oh, good to hear! We're planning on seeing it tomorrow.

Friday I saw Eragon. I liked it. Becky didn't. Ah, well, I haven't read the book either, which might make a difference.

We just got done watching the first two movies of LOTR...extended version of course. It's been a while.

FINGERS
DVD/ Color/ 89 Mins./ R/ 1978
Harvey Keitel plays a piano virtuoso with a twisted second job: He's the muscle man in charge of "collecting" on his mob father's debts. Of course, this creates an internal struggle between the artist's commitments and loyalties. It's another worthy notch in Keitel's belt of offbeat roles that include The Bad Lieutenant, Mean Streets and Pulp Fiction.

The Hogfather, a 2-part film/series based on the Terry Pratchet novel.
It was really good although David Jason wasn't entirly convincing as albert. The main evil guy 'Mr Tea Time' (prenounced teah timay. He gets miffed when it's said wrong lol) was played brilliantly, much the same way Willy Wonka was played by Johnny Depp although it suited this role more (I think Johnny over did it a little to say the least).
All in all it was excellent and very much sattisfied my curiosity about what a Diskworld novel would look like on screen!

HEAVEN’S GATE
DVD/ Color/219 Mins. !!!!!/ R/ 1980
One of Hollywood's most infamous big-budget bombs, this sprawling Western recounts the true story of Wyoming's Johnson County War. When wealthy cattlemen use brutal tactics to drive immigrant settlers of their land, Sheriff James Averill (Kris Kristofferson) intervenes. He clashes with -- and then befriends -- Nathan Champion (Christopher Walken), one of a group of armed mercenaries the cattlemen have hired to "solve" the immigrant problem.

The Cat Returns, an anime by Hayao Miyazaki. My sister just recently got me interested in anime---more specifically, anime by Miyazaki. This is the third film by Miyazaki that I've seen. I liked it, but not as much as Howl's Moving Castle and Porco Rosso. So far, Porco Rosso is my favorite.

Clerks 2 (the iPod Commentary)
DVD/ Color/ 97 Mins./ R/ 2006
Apparently this is a commentary that you could have downloaded to your iPod from some site and brought it into any theater that was showing Clerks 2 and listen to the commentary while you were snacking on your popcorn and Goobers. Pretty nifty idea if you ask me. The commentary features Jeff Anderson (Randal) Scott Mosier (producer) and Kevin Smith (Silent Bob, director) and is chock full of useful information and insights into the making of one of the most successful sequels in cinematic history.

All About Eve
DVD/ B&W/ 139 Mins./ UR/ 1950
Joseph L. Mankiewicz's trenchant script anchors this story about New York City theater life. Bette Davis plays an aging Broadway diva who employs a starstruck fan (Anne Baxter) as her assistant, only to learn the woman is a conniving upstart with few scruples. All About Eve won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director (Mankiewicz), Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor (George Sanders).

Resident evil 2 - seen it before but it's still cool, role on part 3 lol
Half of clerks 2 - it was late at night and i was tired lol, seems like the standard kevin Smith formula which isn't a bad thing by a long shot. Is really funny from what i saw, Jay and silent Bob as bible bashers has to be laughed at lol

Only half of Clerks II!?!??! But you managed to watch the whole Resident Evil 2!?!?!? Shame on you! Kevin Smith trumps any other movie with the number "2" in it, remember that.
