POPEYE
DVD/ Color/ 113 Mins./ PG/ 1980
Robert Altman's deft hand at the helm made this 1980 film a classic. Based on E.C. Segar's comic strip, Popeye stars Robin Williams as the super-strong, spinach-scarfing sailor man. During a storm that wrecks his ship, Popeye washes ashore and winds up rooming at the Oyl household, where he meets Olive (Shelley Duvall). Before he can win her heart, he must first contend with Olive's fiancé, Captain Bluto (Paul Smith).

One is either going to love this film or hate it. Forunately it is one (out of three) of my favorite Robin Williams movies.

Kal-El's Mama
You know, I saw Beowulf last night and was sorely disappointed. The faux-animation was disturbing at best. Sort of a double standard too. They had no issues showing Angelina in the buff, but they went through all sorts of "candles blocking male penis" shots that were just stupid. IF you are going to go through that much effort to keep his privates private, then just let him wear a simple loin cloth! We were laughing at all the shenanigans.

Saw it and I too was not impressed.

NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN
DVD/ Color/ 122 Mins./ R/ 2007
A hunter (Josh Brolin) stumbles upon a dead body, $2 million and a stash of heroin in the woods. He absconds with the cash, but brutal thief Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem) comes looking for it, with a local sheriff (Tommy Lee Jones) on his trail. The roles of hunter and prey blur as the violent pursuits of money and justice collide. Joel and Ethan Coen direct this dark morality tale, which won four Oscars in 2008, including Best Picture.

Ironically Unsatisfying.

Shoot em up, really bloody.
I'll give it that. But in all honesty, when it comes to watching movies, I am never hopeful or expectant of a good ending or a sad ending but for a movie that clocks in at over 2 hours, I should be deserving of some kind of ending.

Vantage point is a new kind of movie,Actually enjoyed it alot.

Hmmm, some things to notice or muse over about this movie, maybe they have no meaning but maybe they do...:

-This movie played in theatres the weekend the DALLAS primaries started heating up...Dallas is an important spot in presidential assasinations

-This movie started on February
22nd in Canada, this goes back to John F Kennedy's assisnation.

-The USA was the only place in the world that this movie opened on February the
20th or you could say 2/20...that's also a double 2 (the 0 is unimportant) and this was ESPECIALLY concocted for America.

-The movie is an action packed thriller from
COLUMBIA pictures...this has a link to Columbia university which was attended by Barack Obama (who they'll make the next president of the US) amongst other things.

The fact is that they have put this out in this particular time with certain elements proving one thing...it was preconceived or forethought...a lot of planning went into this. Maybe you've noticed this for a while now, but what is happening with the globe is being reflected in the films they're making for 'entertainment'.

oh yeah also wanted to point out in this movie, the assassination was captured by 5 point of views.

The assassination of former US president Ronald Regan which was a warning assassination (he wasn't actually killed, just reminded to listen to his handlers and the fact that he was more of an actor who was just supposed to read the line) was also captured by 5 different cameras.

The Number 23

Walter Sparrow starts reading a book which seems eerily similar to his own life. The character in the book is obsessed with the number 23 and sees it in everything and the more Walter reads the more he begins to see the number in his own life. When he finds out that the character in the book turns into a murderer Walter begins to worry that he may do the same thing. Good movie!

I saw Borat for the first time and had several reactions. I wet myself laughing, was astounded at their bravado and thought it captured the America many of my fellow countrymen understand. I think Sasha Baron Cohen is masterful. And, I said to my wife, who was also wetting herself laughing, "I bet most Americans won't understand this." Appears I was right.

Borat very funny, with some cringe-worthy moments. A good glimpse at where we really stand as a country. ;)

Exactly

I watched "Borat" yesterday, and was not much impressed. There were a few laughs in it, but mostly it was very predictable, and so not very funny. I was intrigued by the other actors in it, though, as they represented the Americans I know so well that I really thought that perhaps they were not actors, but regular folks reacting to "Borat" naturally. Obviously this could not be the case, but whoever those folks were, they sure looked like " regular americans". Which in a way made the film somewhat depressing. The absurdity it was depicting is sadly all too real.

Predictable? That's one thing I would say it was defintely not. As for the actors, they knew they were being filmed of course, but they didn't realise that they were the butt of the joke most of the time.

Well, they had to have seen all the cameras and lights and movie hardware, so they knew they we being filmed. And my guess is that they were all paid for their participation. But now that the film is a success, they want more, I suppose. That too, is the American way.

Doesn't take too much filming equipment really.

It was a sad sad film and a total waste of time in my life watching it, I should try and sue him to get that time back! It was also confusing, I'm not sure who he intended to offend by doing what he did, if anything I think he made an embarasment of himself really!

The sad thing is that it is confusing to some people.

I see you're from the UK. Maybe that's why it didn't connect with you.

Which is strange because that's where Cohen is from. And Aussies love it and I would've said that our humor is similar to that of the UK.

From what I took away after watching Borat, he was trying to expose Americans' prejudice and inability to cope with different cultures.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I sort of get that but I would have got it more if he wasn't being such an idiot about it and acting normaly which I asume they do in Kazakhstan,

An idiot about it? Normal? You really did miss the point of it eh?

Magic Man

Reaper of Conversation
I can't wait to see the second Harold and Kumar. The first one was one of those that caught me by surprise.

As to Kadzbiz and Borat: It's not that if you don't like it, it's because you don't get it. I got it, and I didn't like it. It's a sad commentary on our country in some parts. I just don't like that kind of humor, though. It's too "shock" for me. I like wacky and out-there stuff, but this just took it too far. I'm sorry, I don't think there's anything amusing or entertaining or useful about two naked men fighting, as an example. It did a good job of pointing out funny things that many Americans do and think, but alltogether, it was just over the top (and not the good, Stallone movie kind).

I saw Monster's Ball a couple of nights ago. It was kind of an odd movie but more realistic than most movie's I've seen. Didn't like Borat even though I understood what they were trying to do. It was just not my kind of movie.

Kung Faux Vol. 2
DVD/ Color/ 100 Mins./ NR/ 2000
This inventive 2003 television show crammed hours of classic martial arts action into a neat half-hour bundle, scoring pared-down, 1970s kung fu films with hit music and redubbing the dialogue using the voices of hip-hop celebrities. The second installment of the multivolume set includes two episodes featuring the vocal talents of De La Soul, Biz Markie, Afrika Bambaataa, Naughty By Nature, Prince Paul and Queen Latifah.

Terrible. It would have been a lot more entertaining to just rent the original martial art movies that inspired this mess.

I saw Speed Racer last nigh.

Wow.

This is the most visually stunning movie I have ever seen. The plot was the basic Good Guy overcomes the Evil Lord of Hate. Still, I just loved it.

Polyanna
I saw that vagina dentata movie "Teeth" last night. It wasn't really what I had expected - I actually kind of liked it.
