So a bell can ring all day and night if they wanted?

The courthouse bell does every hour. The train runs throughout the night blowing a whistle.
Religious places have every right to ring or buzz etc...If it becomes absurd local government should step in and place volume and frequency guidelines within reason and applicable and universal to all. Never prohibitions though...so long as the free exercise and establishment clauses are respected.

Yeah, I used to hear trains all night where I used to live.

I might just do that!!! I would like to see your reaction to a couple muslim families move in your community and set up some speakers so that five times a day, your can hear it and embrace it, just because they paid for it.

Well my neighborhood has covenants...
But that aside.... blast some music and you will likely get a visit from local law and a citation for disturbing the peace.
Come on. Let's use just a little common sense...

Are you talking about what is right/lawful or what should be right/lawful in your opinion? Free exercise of religion doesn't trump all laws and ordinances. Freedom and rights always have limitations.

I am talking about what your rights are. The thread was about a Muslim call to worship. There is no law in the US prohibiting Mosques to do that similar to the ringing of church bells. Limits...yeah, don't get thrash metal loud and don't expect the government to fund it.
You are free to argue any of that....but you'd be wrong.

Call to prayer as done traditionally wouldn't be allowed here where I live, not speaking of every part of America. Votes could petition to change that. Nothing I was saying was going against freedom of religion or religious expression.

Most communities in the U.S. it is simply out of place regardless...

And how many Muslim mosques are there in your home town? If church bells ring there and a Mosque had a good lawyer it would happen. You can no more prohibit that because it is unpopular than homosexuals, liberials, and human rights activists can silence homo haters with bullhorns and posters protesting and exercising their freedom of speech in front of Walmart. Now if they start running out in traffic or get violent....they have crossed over into violating others rights and safety and disturbing the peace.

And yes it is uncommon. For now. In France, the Netherlands, Spain and such.... they populated the area quietly and quickly. Then exploited their big hearts and political correctness. Now those countries are finally putting their foot down to save country and freedom. Any mention of Sharia Law here would....be about like Red Dawn in the early 80's. Wolverines!!

One mosque here and none in my home town...in my home town it seemed there were church bells within every square mile or so, none here where I live now. I know most Muslim males here at least as an acquittance and doubt the majority even do daily prayers faithfully. Most wouldn't want to feel the negativity it would bring from the rest to have a horn speaker or two calling out 5 times a day in a foreign language.

Perhaps. I can't speculate much on that nor was my contribution intended to address how any religious group feels. It was about your right, my right, US citizens...their right to free exercise of religion. And the desire to correct such an ignorant belief that a vote provides or prevents that freedom. It is a Constitutional right. Like the right women have to vote. You cannot lawfully vote on that. Or free speech...you cannot vote to shut those up you disagree with or are offended by. When that day comes...and rights are very misunderstood by the masses....right to education, healthcare, housing.. be afraid when a vote can strip your Constitutional rights.

I would rather listen to the sound of cats mating than be forced to listen to the Islamic "call to prayer". so put me down as against. I have no issues whatsoever with bells. They do have a rather pleasant sound after all.

:(

I'm really sorry to know this.

Don't worry about me, I'm not offended :)

Even here in Saudi Arabia some Muslims complain about it.

Well, at least you're up front about your hate.

Quietly, no doubt. :)

Actually some complained and the mosques lowered the volume of the speakers to a level that does not annoy people. Not completely turning them off.

The mosque near me did this as well.

I'm not complaining but, you seem to have something against Muslims. Believe me not all Muslims are bad. I for one don't deserve hatred. I'm an :angel2:

The jews have something too. It is called shofar and they used mainly on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Why are these abrhamic religions so god damn noisy. Can't we muzzle them?

Why is that hate? I would rather hear wild animals breed than fundies with bullhorns. I will defend their freedom for the sake of my own and I don't hate them. I pity them. Americans are that way mostly. Play on our desire to dwell in peace despite our differences... challenge our freedoms... think we are kind to a fault and foolish enough not to recognize a threat...and you have made a huge mistake. We tolerate Muslims and can live with a variety of cultures and races. We are not France. We are not the Netherlands. Threaten our freedom and you will see a unification of American spirit that sent the British home and preserved the freedoms we fight and die for.

We distrust Middle Easterners and Muslims rightly so. Throw that fact in our faces as hate and intolerance. It is common sense. Say the same to an Israeli Jew.

Lol. Please, girl. You can tone your schtick down and stop trying to frighten all the foreigners on this board. The spirit of 1776 is dead. Move on.
