Yes the USA spends more money on military than any other country, probably more than the top four countries below it in spending combined. I don't mind playing for the team that has the most money. It actually helps the US economy, and pretty much any country with a port that doesn't hate us gets hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue whenever an air craft carrier stops in for a couple of days, so unless your country is land locked you're probably reaping the benefits and it might be a reason why your taxes going to the MIL aren't that high.

Unless you live in several countries which do spend much more than 4% of their GPA on military spending.

It should be remembered that there are only so many resources on this planet. If every person lived on earth, like an American, it would take four Planet earths to sustain this life style. Children die, the earth warms, all because Americans waste money. I see the investment of military hard ware to fight 3 wars at the same time (Thats the USA ideal for military might) as a crime against the poor of this world.

What right do we have to invest billions and billions so we can fight 3 wars at the sametime when 1/2 the people on the planet make under $2.50 a day.

Oh we can go to Cuba, we just have to fly to a South American country and buy the ticket there.

Don't get me wrong - I love holding hands and singing songs. I love going to multicultural events and multifaith worship services. It all feels great, and I genuinely embrace peace and mutual respect.

But it's not ME I'm worried about, to be honest. It's the Napoleons, the Hitlers, the Caesars, the empires and their rulers. Rulers and kings are inevitably power hungry and will stop at NOTHING, no amount of carnage, to accomplish their goals.

The weaker, less armed will fall to the mighty. It's human nature and our common history. I want to be as prepared as possible to protect my own.

So... you get to choose between being Napoleon or being one of his conquered countries... fine. But when your country is "the mighty" that weaker, less armed countries fall to, you can't really say that they're fighting for freedom any more.

Jesus is the Christian's standard when it comes to peace and loving our neighbor. But Jesus and the early church leaders interacted regularly with Romans and Roman soldiers, and their work was not condemned or chastised. We can strive toward our goal of living peaceably with our neighbor without leaving ourselves and our country wide open for destruction.

It sounds as if Jesus is a pretty poor standard for peace and loving one's neighbour, then.

USN, it is the job of every service member to kill. Even if lets say i was a cook on the ship, my job is still designed around killing people.
