So what did they do in 2008 when they had the majority and the power of the people behind pretty much whatever agenda they wanted.
You tell me, George W Bush was still president in all of 2008...

Your preference is understandable, but business is all about working for others too.The more I think of it when it comes to the Presidency, I'd rather have a Community Organizer instead of a Businessman as President.
Community Organizer works for the people. A businessman works for himself.
The government is not a business. A business is designed to be run for profit. The government is designed to help the people.Your preference is understandable, but business is all about working for others too.
It's far more cooperation than competition or single minded rapacious gain.
Sigh, you know what I mean. When Obama took office, he had the majority everywhere, if you want to argue semantics when you know what my point is, then let me know.

And even when the Democrats had a majority, they didn't have the "supermajority" that would be necessary to invoke cloture/closure to get legislation passed quickly. The Republicans could (and frequently did) use filibusters and other delaying tactics or the threat of them to impede new legislation. The Dems had a majority in 2009 (for about a year) and then in 2010, the Republican power shifted back to the House of Representatives.

place its boot on our necks. I've found it to have a plethora of nasties & a paucity of helpingnesses.
Certainly not to the same extent. You don't argue otherwise, do you?Businesses don't have the power to oppress? That's news to me.

I speak in general, of course.Depends on the government and the business in question.
We agree, they both suck. opcorn:I don't like Obama, but I like Romney even less, and sadly I will not vote for either of them in this election.

Government has more than size...it has unrivaled legal authority & immunity for its actions.Governments tend to be bigger, so they tend to have more weight to throw around. Still, if we're going by "nastiness per pound", I'd say that there are some companies that rank right up with the worst governments, if not beyond.

Of all the people I know, not one has ever lost health care insurance upon getting really sick.Health care reform. Now your insurance company can't take your money for years, then cancel your coverage as soon as you get sick. Believe it or not, some extremely stupid Americans think that's a bad thing. Bad enough that he lost his majority in the next election.

What on Earth can business do to compare with:
- Drafting you, & forcing you to kill others.
Happens all the time. Less in this part of the world, but still fairly frequently.- Taking your property because it wants it.
Define "martial law".- Imposing martial law.
In a monopoly or monosony situation, a business is quite free to set prices however they want. They don't call it a "tax", but the effect is the same.- Imposing income taxes, sales taxes, personal property taxes, real estate taxes, use taxes, inventory taxes, self employment taxes, etc.
You have me on that one. When businesses are being truly nasty to a person, they tend to go the other way: causing death and pain when the people affected would prefer to live.- Forcing you to stay alive when you're on your deathbed & in pain.
My country hasn't been attacked militarily by another country in 200 years. OTOH, it's been attacked by private organizations several times. (by the Fenian Brotherhood and the Babbar Khalsa, in particular).- Attacking your country militarily.
