There is a real need for the things religions currently provide, but obviously those needs can be attained without them, otherwise everyone would be religious.

If we can get what we need elsewhere, than there is no real need for religion.

Of course. The problem is when people think things like science can perfectly replace religion when obviously they do not fit the needs of the religious.

Meaning/purpose in life. It cannot be found with science, but one can find purpose by becoming a scientist, or an artist, priest, sky diver, etc.
