The new age movement have gained quite a lot acceptance among many people.
Here are a few of their beliefs:
1. Believe in the impersonal god/force who is one with the universe
2. Deny the reality of sin, evil and judgement
3. Believe that 'salvation' occurs when you become conscious of your deity and aware of your oneness with the God/force
4. Deal with the anxiety and responsibility of your godhood by resorting to fantasy and mystical experience.
5. Eventually encounter and submit control of your life to spirit guides and alien beings
6. Anticipate fullfillment in this life and in future lives through reincarnation.
How do these concepts contradict/support the message of jesus christ?
Why do these concepts appeal to so many people?
What are the dangers if any of accepting these concepts?
Heneni, I do not know what source you are using to make these claims of New Age, but as someone who has studied much "New Age" literature, I suspect you are someone who has not. I agree with your 1st and 2nd point, but after that you have run amok.
3. Becomming conscious of your deity? At the core of New Thought there IS no deity.
4.Responsibility/anxiety of godhood dealt with through fantasy and mysticism? Actually, New thought distances it self from such mysticism as virgin births, talking snakes, Eve being made of Adams rib, ect.
5.Submission to spirit guides and alien beings? New Thought rejects the very idea of submission. There is no Lord and savior, we are responsible for saving ourselves. We see everyone as a teacher to learn from on this journey.
6. In New Thought, many may believe in reincarnation, but do not consider it all that important. It is HERE and NOW that matters.
New Thought does not judge the beliefs of others. Others are recognized, like us, as spiritual beings having a human experience.
Jesus said, "Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me."
We practice this quite literally.
