New scientist Gregg Braden

Gregg Braden does not appear to be part of the discovery institute. Here is a brief summary of what I was able to find out about his studies:

Human by Design invites you on a journey beyond Darwin’s theory of evolution, beginning with the fact that we exist as we do, even more empowered, and more connected with ourselves and the world, than scientists have believed possible.

* * *

In one of the great ironies of the modern world, the science that was expected to solve life’s mysteries has done just the opposite. New discoveries have led to more unanswered questions, created deeper mysteries, and brought us to the brink of forbidden territory when it comes to explaining our origin and existence. These discoveries reveal the following facts:

· Fact 1. Our origin—Modern humans appeared suddenly on earth approximately 200,000 years ago, with the advanced brain, nervous system, and capabilities that set them apart from all other known forms of life already developed, rather than having developed slowly and gradually over a long periods of time.

· Fact 2. Missing physical evidence—The relationships shown on the conventional tree of human evolution are speculative connections only. While they are believed to exist, a 150-year search has failed to produce the physical evidence that confirms the relationships shown on the evolutionary family tree.

· Fact 3. New DNA evidence—The comparison of DNA between ancient Neanderthals, previously thought to be our ancestors, and early humans tells us that we did not descend from the Neanderthals.

· Fact 4. A rare DNA fusion—Advanced genome analysis reveals that the DNA that sets us apart from other primates, including in our advanced brain and nervous system, is the result of an ancient and precise fusion of genes occurring in a way that suggests something beyond evolution made our humanness possible.

· Fact 5. Our extraordinary abilities—We are born with the capacity to self-heal, to self-regulate longevity, to activate an enhanced immune response, and to experience deep intuition, sympathy, empathy, and, ultimately, compassion—and to do each of these on demand.

In this book, New York Times best-selling author and 2017 Templeton Award nominee Gregg Braden crosses the traditional boundaries of science and spirituality to answer the timeless question at the core of our existence—Who are we?—and to reveal science-based techniques that awaken our uniquely human experiences of deep intuition, precognition, advanced states of self-healing, and much more! Beyond any reasonable doubt, Human by Design reveals that we’re not what we’ve been told, and much more than we’ve ever imagined.

Gregg Braden is so good he gets an entry in
Encyclopedia of American Loons: #515: Gregg Braden

Well if he were #515 I wouldn't worry so much!

Any rating as a loon has got to be worth something

And that's not a ranking but a numerical order of assessment, they don't rank loons but provide a diagnosis, in his case it a fairly strong "demented f??kwit"

Their piece opens with ,"There is out there, and there is out there, and Gregg Braden is definitely as far out there as you get.". And is tagged (among other things) quantum woo woo

This "irony" is soneone's deep confusion.

First, because science has been simply terrif at solving
"Life's mysteries".

Second-

It has been over a hundred years since the Victorian
conceit that they were just about to wrap it up as far as
getting nature figured is concrrned.

Here is a canard from Vic days that some still cannot
get straight.

Science is not advanced by fictional characters or
wild claims of real people. The lone wolf / young rebel/
James Bond criminal mastermind/ mad scientist, whether
Faust, Captain Nemo or Ron Wyatt, who takes svience far
beyond others' imagining simply does not exist.

Read Faust and Frankenstein if suc fiction suits you.
It is better written.

Well this is just great; my thread gets featured and I'm not sure if anyone's even on my side. I will have to try to read Ch. 1 right now. If you are all arguing against me please try not to post too often and do me a favor.

So the book is not a scientific or religious book although it has a lot of referenced science in it. He wants to get the stories that help us the most in modern times. "When we change the story, we change our lives." Survival of the fittest isn't the most beneficial philosophy (for instance it causes "terrorism, bullying, and hate crimes to the epidemic of drug and alcohol abuse"); nor is that we are inherently flawed a la Adam & Eve.

There are ancient practices that can help us on this quest too. I just heard today at the bus stop that monks can survive in freezing temperatures by keeping their body temperatures up. That sort of thing.

In an effort to have a more viable story, he mentions a claim that there are inferred relationships between the human-like species and no actual link between any. I don't know if there should be. This is his idea. He also mentions the complexity of the eye and the brain; again nothing we haven't heard before.

As of July 2015, 1,371 esteemed scientists signed the following statement:

"We are skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural selection to account for the complexity of life. Careful examination of the evidence for Darwinain theory should be encouraged."

He also mentions that Darwin had incredible courage and was a great scientist.

I don't know what he's going to say in Ch. 2, but it is an interesting book. The goal seems to be to find out what would be most beneficial for us philosophically, and aim our research at it.

I might be able to read Ch. 2 today. Thank you. Feel free to respond a little if you would.

Well, I am unable to read for the rest of the day. It's not that I don't want to; I can only physically read for so long. Feel free to provide some feedback today, overnight and tomorrow.

Let's get that straight. I looked everywhere and he never claimed to be a scientist. So sorry for a misleading claim. I didn't know what to call him so just decided to say "Scientist" even if it didn't quite feel right.

He claims to bridge science, spirituality and the real world and is a New York Times best-selling author. However he seems to be able to handle science in Ch. 1 the only chapter I read so far and I wrote a post about it you can respond to.

The phrase “survival of the fittest” as used in biology, doesn’t mean any of the activities that you have claimed.

The “survival of the fittest” has to do with one “fitness”, meaning its continuing abilities to adapt and survive in the environment, for generations, at genetic (biological) level.

Your list of claims - "terrorism, bullying, and hate crimes to the epidemic of drug and alcohol abuse" - are ALL social problems, and have nothing to do with ones’ cells, genes or DNA.

That for instance, the butterflies, no matter the species or the environments except in the Arctic or polar regions, butterflies can survive in many different environments.

The different species of butterflies are not strongest insects, nor the smartest, but they continue to survive and produce new generations, despite being preys to other insects, to spiders and birds.

The butterflies survive, because they found niche in each environment, to coexist with other insects, and continue to produce offspring and descendants.

The abilities to continue to produce offspring in each new generations, given the environments they are living in, is what survival of fittest.

Now, if one day all butterflies were to die out in one particular environment (or more) because the population no longer reproduce new generation of butterflies, then it lost it “fitness”.

You certainly don’t understand the concept of survival of fittest and natural selection.

Evolution is all about biology, not social crises or social issues.

What he is, is a quack. He has no science degree, never published a science paper. What he does is write science sounding fictional ideas that caters to worldviews held by some of the New Age people.

Your post covers too many misleading statements made by the book author. Can you ask a specific question, or point to one book claim for discussion?

That list of dissent is a well known Discovery Institute created misleading advertising piece. Nothing more.

The Perfumed Seneschal
There is no such thing as “creation scientist”.

Creation is not another branch or field in science.

And these creationists don’t follow procedure, eg scientific method, to formulate testable hypotheses, and provide actual test results of experiments. And they don’t submit their works before peer review.

“Creation science” is not science, and “creation scientists” are just made up position.
Creation science actually is a field of "study". Notice the massive quotations.

  1. the interpretation of scientific knowledge in accord with belief in the literal truth of the Bible, especially regarding the creation of matter, life, and humankind in six days.

Not an actual science in the way that quantum physics or molecular biology is science, as they don't really use the
scientific method. It's more of a label used by said creation "scientists" in an attempt to validity them jamming the bible into science. Ken Ham is a notable example.
