I'm happy to address any points you may have, but bringing in "how can the golden rule exist in a universe of chance?" is a different question.

It's a good question, but I think it is a separate conversation. I want to hone in on what it is about God decreeing a moral edict that is needed to make morality objective. To me, living in a "survival of the fittest" world is what makes morality a relevant topic in the first place. If we lived in a world where everything always went right, and people always acted with kindness, morality wouldn't be a very important topic.

To me, even if God existed and commanded "Thou shalt not steal," -even in that universe- God's forbiddance isn't the deciding factor in what makes stealing wrong. Stealing is wrong regardless of what God thinks.
