let us know before if you're going to try, so we can pray for you. with help of God, it is a pleasure. i think that would be valuable experience. it makes you realize you always eat more than enough. we all eat more than we need. when you fasting all day, at the end very small food would make your stomach feel like it's full :D

Actually many Muslims like to fast voluntarily other days throughout the year, not only Ramadan. Like Mondays and Thursdays...

one missconception most non muslims have about fasting in ramadan is that they think it's like the 40 hour famine. :faint:

last month i was fasting and a guy asked me why i did so.
i told him that it is preparation for ramadan.
he didn't know about ramadan and i told him that we fast a whole month.
he seemed very surprised if not shocked, he said i could not do that, 1 month thats too much, people die after a few days without food.

when he said that, i got the imppression that he was thinking it is like the 40 hour famine. so i explained that we only fast during the day and not during the night. he felt a big relief but told me that he could not do it for a whole month, he said he would if he was devoted, but i guess he wasn't.

is this missconception shared by many non muslims or is it just the odd one here and there?

I have done a 24 hour no food/no water fast. I managed over 24 hours without food but I only managed about 22 without water. Otherwise I've done plenty of half day fasts or fasts that involve not eating certain foods. I'm not very familiar with Ramadan though.

yeah he thought we don't eat for a whole month.

i wouldn't say one in a million, looking at Madhuris post i'd say she's got the same view as that man. unless i'm wrong.

is that kind of fasting required in your teachings? i mean, did you do it for religious purposes?

It was done for religious purposes but it is not required. That sort of fasting, in fact any sort of fasting, is always an option for the individual.

Sanatan Dharma is the real term for Hinduism, which consists of many religious schools/sects. It means Eternal Righteousness.
By saying Sanatan Dharma, I am not confining myself to any particular religious institution, but rather a philosophical path based in Vedic scripture.
