Non Muslims: anyone of you going to fast?

Whats the deal with this fasting challenge?

Is it just a 12 hour dawn to dusk curfew on food.

If so, I do that every day. I only eat 1 meal per day, and usually at night. So I don't see any particular challenge there. If we really want to feel for those actually starving in Somalia etc then perhaps we should see who survives without food for 12 days not 12 hours, but the concept is good.

I send my best regards to my Muslim Terran Bruddas, in celebration of this significant festival of your tribe.

Cheers

Well, it's not a challenge, it's worship.
Doing it for the sake of God is the point.

These are the reasons for fasting at Ramadan:

1) Taqwaa : learning self-restraint

2) Takbir : glorifying Allah Almighty because of being guided

3) Shukra : being grateful .

is anyone thinking of fasting this ramadan.

have you fasted in any of the previous years?

if so what did you think of it, nice :D right?

i personally wish that it was ramadan all year round although it would get kind of hard after a few years, lol. every year just a few months after ramadan is over, i go nuts when i realise that the next ramadan is some more months away. and now i can't wait to start. hopping that Allah will accept it and be pleased with me and with all those who shall fast too. inshallah.

I fast but not for religious reasons, its just when its hot i seem to lose my appetite and i need less sleep, must be something to do with our evolutionary past ;)

I am married to a muslim woman and since eating twice a day is a bit much i have choosen to not eat during ramadan until the evening.

Yep

Unhealthy, risky, not really productive and far from spiritual as it is done in the muslim world.

Of course you (as muslim) should know that nobody keeps you from fasting more often. If it were as you stated above then you would do that.

so are you going to do the fasting like the muslims, right. eating before sunrise and after sunset. thats good to hear.

thats nice to hear. but judging from your post you don't seem to like it very much?

Unhealthy, risky, not really productive and far from spiritual as it is done in the muslim world.

oh, it's not that bad. yes sometimes it does feel as though there is no spirituality in it, being in a muslim minority has a big effect on that, but the spirituality is there if you seek it.

yes i do, it's not only in ramadan that i fast, but at anytime of the year, whenever i am well. elhamdulilah for the strength.

it was nice hearing this from you, i hope this year you find some spirituality and enjoy it.

so you've never tried fasting (the muslim way).

why not? it seems you can and have fasted before.

why don't you try it this year? you've got us muslims around here to help you. get up in the morning before sunrise and straight into RF, let us know whats going on? not the whole mont just a few days or just one? are you up for it grandpa? :p :D (no dissrespect meant, i just remembered that time when you were asking me about my age)

I've fasted before, but not for Ramadan and not for any religious purpose for that matter. But I'm willing to give it a try.
