Obama's Speech to School Kids

I think education is one of the most important things in our country, so the presidents podium belongs in the class room, after all they are the future

Too much assumption and lollipops don't count.
I participated in fund raisers when I was young.
No politics.

It's the practice we are discussing here.
The presidents podium belongs on capitol hill.

Our children are the future including our futrue presidents. If he is forbidden into the school to encourage them to keep on getting their education that is a sad message to send to our children.

They let Joe Bloe firmeman and police man in there to lecture.Heck they let the parents in their on 'career" day to lecture.

But God forbid the leader of their nation have the nerve to show his face.

Okay let's run with that....
Should I object if school is limited to academics? ....No.

My same thoughts exactly.

Everyone can share their thoughts..With the exception of the one who is leading the country they live in.

Then dont object.

I personally want my kids to meet Mr.Fireman and Mr. Policeman.

Sure I can do it myself and I have..I took my kids to my local Fire Dept...and we got to see where they slept..(kids and I were amazed..bunk beds! LOL) and big kitchen where all the MEN cooked..LOL..they let us get in the trucks...and we had a "treat" they got a call and had to go roaring off to the rescue while we were there..They dropped us like hot cakes and went into rescue tunnel vision. All we coudl do was GET out of the WAY!!!(they dont love me..LOL)

But not all parents have the opportunity or time to do that.

I wouldnt take that away from my kids or anyone elses.

You twisted my last post.
Extra curricular activities are one thing....politics are something else.
If the children are old enough to be taught politics... the tactics, methods, technique......appropriate venues....and such....fine.
Teach them politics AS politics.
Leave the demo to prime time tv.

I have to wonder whether you really are this detached from reality thief. If you really think that the highest official in the land giving a pep talk to kids about working hard and staying in school is political then I fear there is no hope for you. For you to make this into a political situation while railing against politics in the classroom is hypocritical and pathetic. Seriously, grow up.

School is POLITICAL on an official basis.

But the president sending a message on the importance of staying in school to the kids directly during school hours is LESS POLITICAL than many other exposures that kids have.

Seriously if you are so hard pressed against the president advising kids directly to the kids at school on the value of education I serioulsy wonder what YOUR agenda is to object to it.

Is it simply because he is an elected official?(that you happen to not like)

The school board that reigns over them is elected..The PTA is all run by "elected" officials.

Get rid of ALL of it.Why outrage over a 20 minute speech by the president? When the schools are RUN by elected officials.

I dont want to be that harsh but I agree.

It has to be that he simply doesnt like Obama in the first place.

The PTA should be absolved and not be allowed to have ANY influence over school activities or curiculum.

The superintendent of schools should be fired..And a new one hired that is not elected.

I voted for Obama.
I simply and throughly have stated politics belong in the public arena.
NOT public schools.

And Obama is qualified to teach history?
And there was a recent news report that Columbus is no longer given positive reviews.
Then the children were asked if he deserved Monday holiday status. No.

What do YOU think is going on?

And if you think your children cannot be harmed by what they are taught you are sorely mistaken.

I am also opposed to the military having access to student records.

About time.

What do YOU think is going on?

In the example above I think the curriculum is finally turning more towards the "Truth" than the popular politicized version.

I find it funny you argue against politics in schools then cite the correction of the single worst traditional historical propaganda our schools ever put out as an example of your point.

It`s quite ridiculous.

You are in effect arguing against yourself.

And if you think your children cannot be harmed by what they are taught you are sorely mistaken.

This comment is irrelevant to this discussion but I`ll reply anyway.

My child will not be harmed by what she is taught because I have influence on her mind.
With a parent like me she comes home from school questioning her own address.
:)

Honestly, if 8 years ago Bush had gone online into the kids schools to promote the Patriot Act the only thing I`d do is it use it as very effective visual lesson of how our leaders don`t have our best interests in mind.

She`d learn from that, if I was successful in banning the president from speaking at all she`d learn nothing and wonder what the grown-ups were all freaked out about.

You're still not getting it.
The greater influence is first come first serve.

You should have no objection that Obama keep his podium in prime time tv.

Obama or anyone else can put their podium where ever they like.

I`m not raising children so weak as to become indoctrinated by political pundits.

Unfortunately the rest of my country sees political indoctrination as keeping the status quo.

"The President has spoken often about the responsibility parents have for their children and their education, but in this message he’ll urge students to take personal responsibility for their own education, to set goals, and to not only stay in school but make the most of it."
The White House - Blog Post - "My Education, My Future"

What terrible things to tell our children. Personal responsibility. Set goals. Stay in school.

Current news report....this country is split right down the middle about this upcoming speech.

That's pathetic....not knowing where to drawn the line.

I've drawn it repeatedly.....need to see it again?
