Obama's Speech to School Kids

Your perspective is not real.
We are discussing a captive audience situation without parental consent.

And I kept my children from strangers in their youth.
In their youth all children are sensitive to words of others.

When it comes to my children...my words are more important than the president.

So I'm suppose to stand back and say nothing as my children are subjected?
YOUR children are influenced by this? Sorry if this sounds harsh, but, if you seriously put your kids in the American public school instead of homeschooling them (or private school if that's your thing and you can afford it), you shouldn't have kids. Public school will destroy them, Obama or no Obama.

I really just dont understand it.Our school distric Plano ISD is not going to show it ..but they are going to link it on their web-site.

Did these people get a pre-view of the speech and have some sort of issue with any of the content?

I mean what exactly are they so upset about?

We couldnt afford private school and I was warned by a professional to not attempt to homeschool my last one when I suggested it.

I dont think that means I shouldnt have kids.

Tactics.
The captive audience scenario I just posted.

School is not for politics...of any kind....even if it appears benign.

Now...if the child is old enough to be shown what politics is....as a technique...fine.

Teaching tactic as a course would be good.
Teaching speech is good.
Being stuck in your seat without recourse....and not able to say 'nay'....bad.

The president is not a teacher...just because he got elected.

So, where you live the teachers send home lesson plans for every single unit and class discussion, and you get to yank your kids out of class at the slightest hint that they might discuss topics of a political nature in school, or that a politician (or presumably any member of any non-Republican political party, or anyone who votes) might talk to them about non-political topics such as staying in school?

I pity your kids. They're doomed to have to fight against you every step of the way if they want to learn anything about the world they live in.

Your last response was too extreme.

But such things do happen.
In my freshman year...in an all boy catholic high school...we had a lay teacher for English 101.
He gave us contemporary novels to read and report on.
He truly believed the expression of each work to be important.
Unfortunately most of the chosen works were full of foul language.

One student came to class and announced his parents objection.
The teacher was to refrain.
The student got transfered.
The novels kept coming.

I was part of a captive audience. Did I learn to cuss and swear like crazy?
Sure did. And I'm skillful about it.

Now what do you think?!@#$%^&*()!

Have you ever been in an American public classroom?
The entire environment is one big indoctrination into patriotism and political bias.

Next thing you know the socialized public schools will have kids reading Catcher in the Rye, or the Federalist Papers. They might hear about the history of the labor movement or (gasp!) even be taught geography.

Where will it all end?

Our schools arent perfect///But I have to admit the truth they are more qualified to teach than I am.

I think the ones here in Plano do a better job than some of the other Texas schools. Our teachers get paid more .There is a lot of money here.

Come to think of it the Republican candidate always sweeps our elementary school elections too.

Obama came out well ahead the last time around.

Maybe they have a good reason to want to keep him away from the kiddies?

Hail me as a prophet. When all these people were insisting during the Bush years that true Americans have to respect the office of the President no matter how strongly they disagree with him, I predicted that their conviction on that point would vanish as soon as a Democrat took office.

I really think we need a new word for these people. Conservative is not the right word. To call this surge of lunacy conservative is an insult to the memories of Calvin Coolidge, Barry Goldwater, and William F. Buckley. This is like some kind of mass hysteria, reminiscent of the Salem witchcraft trials, the rise of the Klan, and McCarthyism.

Not to mention an insult to Dwight Eisenhower. I think of them as authoritarians or authoritarian followers. Either that, or as neocons. All of those terms more more sense to me than to think of them as conservatives.

I am sure that having a written constitution is a good part of the problem...
It has stuck the USA with mid 18th century ideas, but modern communications.
It is just too strong a weapon in the hands of the reactionary, and prevents new thought.

Author: Liberals Should Lament Conservatism's Death

August 31, 2009 Is conservatism dead? Author Sam Tanenhaus believes so. In his latest book, The Death of Conservatism, an expansion on his January article in The New Republic, Tanenhaus argues that American conservatism has been taken over by revanchists who are at war with the American government.

Your perspective is not real.

Um...ok, not sure who that was directed to or what it means.

We are discussing a captive audience situation without parental consent.

No, we're discussing talking to a group of kids.

And I kept my children from strangers in their youth.

So, the president is a stranger? That's an odd way of looking at it. Again, this goes back to your overactive distrust of people.

In their youth all children are sensitive to words of others.

Sure, they are. However, that doesn't mean they should be sheltered from hearing all words but their parents'. It just means they need to be taught (usually by their parents) how to analyze others' words.

When it comes to my children...my words are more important than the president.

Sure, so, after your children hear the president's speech, you talk to them about it. You ask them about it, and you tell them what you think about it. It's not hard.

Try to put yourself in somebody else's place for once, Mball. What about the danger that when they try to explain to their children what they should believe and why, their children will realize that they're babbling idiots?
