Obama's Speech to School Kids

The nation is split because conservative pundits will do whatever it takes to discredit the President.

It is shameful when either side of the aisle does this.

Obviously the corrupt politicians succeded in sowing hate and dividing the country. I am all for the speech, as long as political agendas are not made known...unless they relate to public school funding and stuff that would affect the schools

An email from my kid's school:

Humble ISD announcements Sept. 2, 2009
Type: HTML Msg

Please note the following announcements and news items:

As you may be aware, President Obama will be addressing the nation's school children over the internet on September 8, 2009. As classes are well-engaged in curriculum at this point in the new year, Humble ISD will not be directing a district-wide viewing of this Presidential address.

IOW - HISD already has their schedule in stone, and has better things to spend their time on ;P.

Well, they have the Grandparent Luncheon on the 4th, Room Parent Brunch on the 10th, and Chick-Fil-A Night on the 17th. They're busy, busy, busy.

Oh, okay. But I guess kids like me are welcome here since this is about kids?:D
As far as I know, you're welcome anywhere on the site. The few teenagers we get around here tend to be smarter than half the adults, anyway.

I don't know about those events - I am going to school Tuesday for a summer reading party - kids who read a bunch of books over the summer get to celebrate. I don't think they would be too happy about missing their hard-earned ice cream/pizza listening to some old foggie go on and on for an hour lecture... We're going to the party!!!

Most school activities are no longer than 15-30 minutes, kids will not just sit and listen to a lecture for an hour. Does Obama plan on using cartoon characters? is Hannah Montana going to co-star? He does not know a lot about kids to think anyone is going to listen to a lecture for an hour.

a little 15 minute "hello" that is fine. Why does he need an entire hour????

I guess HS is a diff audience than Kindergarten... Is this being broadcast to all grade levels? what exactly are kindergarteners supposed to get out of it? I feel for the kindergarten teachers, trying to get their kids to sit still for that long :( or if it is geared for the little kids, I feel sorry for the HSers.

That makes me wonder what their classes are like. I do think an hour is too long for any inspirational speech, though.

Its hell. seriously, before I got into High School, and into the honors classes, I could pass notes, text, fall asleep, not listen at all, not study, and still pull an A. now I can be at the top of my class through hard work, while being interested in what we learn about.

wow, you really think that all kids are like that? Go meet some of the geniuses in schools these days (Along with the morons who chew tobacco in front of the idiot VP and get caught after they spit in the trash can 7 times) Some of them are very adept at their subjects. There's literature geeks (thats me) History nerds (I like History alot) A friend of mine is in pre-calc as a freshmen....

.....oh you ment elementary....:run:well its no use deleting all of that.

I don't think kids are making up the school calendar. Those are just random events I saw on the Humble ISP calendar. And honestly, they were at different schools. It was just my way of pointing out that you make time for whatever you want to make time for.

I never studied at all until I got the university level. It's a shame the public school curriculum wasn't more challenging; I had to learn my study skills from scratch -- and just at the time I took up nightly drinking.

You should have helped the dumb kids stay eligible for sports. I am doin it for the football kids a little bit in geometry, but it will pay back during basketball season when I become a dumb kid, lol

Is anyone against this speech even reading what facts are out about it?

The speech is 18 MINUTES long!

Greeting's,

And on it goes............. Forum offerings to date on the controversial issue of our President's speech to school children is well participated in by various legions of
personal opinion.............. The participation regarding this issue is most welcome not only on this outstanding website but also among unbelievable numbers of American citizens nationwide............:shout

It strongly appears that the entire controversy encompassing the President's speech is strongly focused on the "Unknown Quantity" factor of our Chief Executive, includng overwhelming concerns regarding preceived leadership deficiencies and credibility questions.................... :run:

Hopefully our President will redouble his efforts to address the many insidious problems facing the American people at home an abroad............. Solving these unparalled problems are the true priority. Topic sensitive and provacative Speeches at this time are definitely amateurish and unwise at best....

The American People deserve much, much better..... Thanks M/S1

Why do you think that telling kids to finish school and work hard is topic-sensitive and provocative? Whose sensitivities are wounded, and who is provoked by such a speech? Those who believe children should drop out and be lazy?
