"Oh my god, you're SO white."

I don't think I've ever been insulted in such a manner as being called white. The only times I can recall being called white has to do with how light I am and that's it. What's I've always thought is wrong though is the whole "acting" white or black thing. If a white person listens to certain music, dresses a certain way and talks a certain way then they are "acting black" and likewise if a black person wears certain clothes, listens to certain music and speaks a certain way they are "acting white". That's what bugs me.

 That really ****** me off, too!

You know... When I hear someone say something racist, I will usually just shake my head in disapproval and not say anything. I don't know if any of you have ever argued with a racist, but it isn't worth it. They have their mind made up, and will not listen to anything you say. It's probably a lot like how my sister and I call each other ****, ****, whore, or *****. We don't mean it, and my mom always tells us not to, but we've been doing it for too long, so we are just going to keep doing it for now.

You know, I wonder how this whole ****, whore, ***** thing got started. Because my friends and I call each other that, too...and everyone else my age and younger does it, too. It's a fairly new "thing." Although it is all said affectionately, I still feel stupid doing it because those words lose their meaning when you use em everyday, and it doesn't sound very becoming. I think I'll stop.

Maybe it's because of "Mean Girls" that one movie?? :D That's my theory. I'm not really sure when we started calling each other mean things. We get pretty nasty though sometimes. Always just joking though. :D

Ok, I have heard this MANY, MANY times...sometimes directed at me. (Which I don't mind because I love that I'm white). But it's said as a joke or an insult.

HOW is this ok? I have long been fed up with this expression. What if I said, "God, you're SO black/hispanic/asian." My *** would be either beaten or called a racist.

How come every other group can get away with sneering, "Ugh, you're so white."

Even on the news tonight, the newsguy was like "...is the WHITEST sport *chuckle*." ?!?! And if someone dared to say on air, "...is the blackest sport *chuckle*.." what would happen to him?

This is ridiculous. What does everyone else think?

Are you serious? Who the hell actually says **** like that?

Agreed.

And well, it's ok if you don't take it as really offensive. It's different for everyone. I know some of my white friends who frequently say "you're so white" or even direct it at themselves. It's just never sat right with me.

You should probably confront them about that. What self respecting person would say **** like that about their own race? Next time they say something like that, just say "damn strait". Those two-faced hypocrites would cry a river if they heard someone say "you're so black" to someone who used a double negative.

One day I had the radio on and was listening to rock music instead of the usually played R&B variety. A young lady I worked with walked in and asked "who turned on this white boy music?" I was taken aback. (I am really only 1/2 white, I am 1/2 Native American but I am not very dark). I thought the statement was kind of rude, but I just laughed it off. Sometimes I wonder if I should have said something (the young lady was white who said it). ;)

That's one of things what ****** me off about our culture - the hypocrisy and double standards. For example, if someone says something like "honky" or "cracker", no one bats an eye, but if someone says something like "******" or "jigaboo" then it's a riot inducing outrage.

So it's wrong to embrace another culture's fasion as your own? How is this any different than "dressing preppy" or being a mathlete? People embrace the things they like, or the things that make them comfortable, or the things they feel make a statement about themselves. Why should it annoy you when someone chooses a certain style?

EDIT:
Oh. Unless you were talking about that it annoys you when people accuse other people of "acting white" or "acting black". Then my little lecture wasn't warranted. :)

Lol! It's because whites have been the supreme power in the US so it's ok to put down whites. Those kind of insults never bother me but I know what you're saying. :)

This is pretty much how I feel, too. Whites have been in a position of privilege for many, many years. I don't have a problem with it at all.

I normally don't "act white" with my friends who are black, but I've been told that I do occasionally "act black" if you get enough wine down me (my friend Lashawn thinks it's hilarious, but that's another story). And if I DO "act white", I just laugh with them. No big deal. It isn't going to get me arrested or lynched - just maybe a little embarrassed around a group of blacks.

Truthfully, I've been in the movie theatre before where I was the only white woman there. It was pointed out to me several times, too, but never in a threatening or deragatory way. It was all very light-hearted.

I dunno - there are worse things to worry about than my ego being slightly bruised.
