On-duty cop ‘caught on camera shooting dead a black man he kidnapped and forced into his squad car’

Do you see race of cops & race of victims covered
equally regarding the races being swapped?
White cops shooting whites
Black cops shooting whites
White cops shooting blacks
Black cops shooting blacks.
I'm just asking for your observation...not proof.

Could try a heuristic:

See how many unarmed white people killed by police people can name compared to unarmed black people.

I doubt it would be particularly close.

People's ability for memory recall is generally crap.

Which is why if lots of people can recall things it is used to measure impact and reach ;)

You don't think that more people being able to recall the names of black victims of police violence compared to white victims could have anything to do with the level of coverage afforded to each?

I'm looking at how it is. Eye witness testimony, for example, is absolutely horrible and responsible for countless wrongful convictions and imprisonments. We are, generally and mostly, very certain of our ability of memory recall but we really suck at it. By now, I'll bet lots of people have already forgotten George Floyd's name.
Amd unless it's local the media rarely covers cops murdering white people, or anyone who isn't black really, so of course people have more exposure to that amd will probably be able to at least remember seeing or hearing something, but the details will be sketchy.

The point is not about the details of the case but the prominence of the coverage devoted to them.

As you note, greater prominence is given to black victims which is why it's much easier to recall the names of black victims.

There is this controversial study from Harvard....
An Empirical Analysis of Racial Differences in Police Use of Force
Be cautious about trusting news coverage. The media
highlight blacks being shot by white cops, resulting in
the spotlight fallacy, ie, the illusion that news presented
fully represents reality.
As we've seen on this forum, many were unaware that
whites were actually shot in greater numbers than blacks.

That was the point, that the media coverage doesn't represent the reality and it's pretty easy to show

I run across cop shootings in the news where race isn't
mentioned. When there are no pix, I'll search the internet
for the names involved. A bit of research typically shows
that the victim was white. So the media create the strong
impression that whites aren't wrongfully shot by cops.
There's a far worse problem than racism, but no call to
address it. So the problem will continue.

And as I also notes a lot of people have probably forgotten the name of George Floyd. Myself, the nurse who was butchered over a no-knock warrant, I think her name was Brianna something. And, to be honest, I had to look up the names of Floyd and Eric Garner not too long ago because I forgot.
People just are not good with memory recall, media, face to face, observations, it doesn't matter we suck at it.
