On Pederasty & Pedophilia

Additionally conflating pedophilia with pederasty is inaccurate even if the two can overlap in the extremes.

/is a fan of 'Romeo and Julilet' laws.

It is. I mean... if you wanted to deduce both of the ideas down into bite-sized candy treats, you might make them taste about the same. Both of them leave little to digest, eh?

I mean... they are different words for very different meanings, and both have a lot of complicated meaning to them. I'm not really sure what Jungle is even really getting at? Should we just say any one over 18 copulating with anyone under 18 (or whatever regional legal age of consent applies) is a pedophile, under any circumstance, and the penalty for all infractions be the same? Is that what she is getting at?

what do we call 50 year old man with 17 year old girl?

Bob? Or idk, I guess it depends on the name his fathers decided.

But if it was up to me, it would be Bob. It is a cool short name that can be said backwards and still be the same.

You know.

Bob

InformedIgnorance

Do you 'know' or believe?
ROFL... sorry I couldnt help it.

Seriously, IMO, if everyone involved is giving their informed consent it doesnt matter what everyone else thinks.

For me, this approach serves to acutely identify what the difference between pederasty and paedophilia is, it is the degree of acceptance by 'everyone else'... what does it matter what others think? Not a lick, unless of course they then play a role in supporting or enforcing such a relationship where that informed consent was NOT given (i.e. in pederasty the community accepts, perhaps even approves, of the arrangement, if the youth does not want to take part, it is more likely to be considered the fault and failure of the youth to do what is expected of them).

well I know that when I was 17, I would have accepted money from a hot older woman if offered - so what's the big deal?

Pedophilia is the scare word of the day, given time it will move on to something else. Here in England the age of consent is 16, but there are a lot of people having sex younger than that and you get some very silly court cases over statutory rape. I know a girl who's had a sexual relationship on and off with a middle aged man (who happens to be notoriously manipulative and unfaithful) from the age of 16, which is completely legal. Then you get teenagers tried at court for sleeping with a 15 year old. Completely loopy.

That sounds incredibly bizarre, but I'm sure there are other states here that are similiar.

It is quite barmy, but fortunately it's rare that the court cases go far. There's been a real fear over underage sex in the UK over the last couple of years and eventually it will progress onto something else. We tend to get media panics, so previously there have been fears of killer dogs, terrorism (from both Muslim and IRA extremists) and race riots. We even had our own version of America's Satanic Panic.

I refused to sleep with my first girlfriend until she was 16. I was a couple of months older than her and in that gap between me being 16 and her being 15 sleeping with her would have been illegal.

what if you were both 15 - would you both then have become law breakers if you'd slept together then?

it's really quite a strange set of laws

It does seem odd.

In my state two 15 year olds who engage in sexual activity are still committing a status offense. No one in these cases really ever gets in trouble unless ticked off parents get involved or you have a cop with an issue with one or both kids.

so a 55 year old man can have sex with a 16 year old girl for money, but her boyfriend of 15 would be the criminal if he did so......how retarded is that!

(this obviously would apply to areas where the age of consent is 16 and paying for sex is not an offence)

16 is legal here.

In this scenario there are several offenses.

A 16 year old doing a 15 year old. Statutory rape ( class a or b felony )
A 15 year old liking it. common Status Offense ( barely a misdemeanor )
A 55 year old soliciting paid sexual activity ( class a misdemeanor )
A 16 year old accepting/requesting money for sexual favor in return ( class a misdemeanor )
A 16 year old repeat offender ( class c or d felony )
That 16 year old girl is in a lot of trouble.
Can anyone spot a real crime in there?

Welcome to Kentucky, the Bluegrass State!

While we were both 15 I don't think so no. The moment I turned 16 there was a 2 and a half month gap where it would technically have been statutory rape.

Considering how many people start to want sex in their teens (not to mention how many could pass themselves off as a 20 year old) it can be quite dangerous.
