Our New Attorney General: Matt Gaetz

I hate when people blame the voters. Is it the voters' fault that half the country looked at Harris/Biden and said "Nope, we can do better"? Is it the voters' fault that politicians have become adept inside a system that rewards them for lying, stealing, and cheating their way to the top? Is it the voters' fault that the two options were a giant douche and a t*&^ sandwich?
The voters are responsible for America's elected officials. If people complain that the government is corrupt and needs changing, then the voters are to blame for not vetting and electing competent individuals. You don't hear Democrats complaining about their elected representatives.
It's only conservatives.
Who else could they vote for? George Washington warned that party politics, because of their regional nature, would destroy the American democratic system. It was the subject of his last speech. Who would have thought that the second best President the Yanks ever had would know his stuff?
Vote for people that are credible and competent. Not some known scammer that tells you what you want to hear.

Vote for facts, not feelings. Do your research.

No, these are people that are not part of the administrative state that thwarts the will of the people. The bureaucracy is going to get cut and won't go away easily. Trump's' big mistake last time was nominating people to positions that were part of the establishment. He is not making that mistake again.
You conservatives clearly have a problem with the people you keep electing. You should do research before voting in the future.
Listening to InfoWars and ridiculous conservative media will always leave you high and dry.
That's the problem with conservatives today, they've gone from Fox news to even more radicalized media further right.

That's my point. The US election didn't seem to feature anyone like that, depending on which side you approached from.
Of course it did. Kamala had tons of experience in government and law. She was more qualified than Trump ever was.
Additionally, the economy has been booming. Unemployment is low, interest rates are coming down. Everything is on the right track.
But that wasn't good enough. Instead of staying course, voters decided to derail the train.
Because someone told them Biden and Dems were responsible for the price increases and inflation. Pure ignorance and gullibility.

Donald Trump's hatred of the Justice Department could not be more obvious -- after all, they came after him, even though he's clearly more innocent than Jesus Christ! So he's nominated somebody else that doesn't like DOJ for the same reason -- who was investgated for allegations of sex-trafficking and under-age sexual activity. (He's still under investigation by the House Ethics Committee.)

In my opinion, this is pure vengeance. And in the end, vengeance really doesn't very often come to anything really good.

Yes, yes, and yes.

Soon be time for the "Don't blame me, I voted for Harris" bumper stickers. Remember those? They seem to have dropped out of fashion.

Seriously though, it really is the voters' fault. Like the CEO of a company who is responsible for everything the company does, they hold the ultimate power. OK, the system is broken, but the voters could fix it, though it would take a while. We need a set of standards for politicians. No lying. No bribes. A clear set of policies. Transparency, as far as possible. Then, vote for who has promised what you want. When a politician has overstepped the standards or failed to deliver on promises (an honest attempt would sometimes be OK), vote them out and vote for the next best. Over the years they will come to realize that we are not going to put up with their crap an start behaving better. They are practical people. Show them what it takes to get elected, and they will fall in line. Maybe some really capable people would be attracted to the profession as they see that they would actually be rewarded for their honesty.

Then give them a fair playing field. Don't believe every made up story designed to attack their reputations. Reject stupid conspiracy theories designed to confuse you. Demand verifiable facts. Understand that not everything is possible. Understand that circumstances change. Vote for someone who honestly says that something you want is not doable, or that they are not sure about something. These are the people you want, not someone who will promise you the earth to get your vote.

No hope of course.

Donald Trump said he will nominate Florida congressman Matt Gaetz to be the US attorney general on Wednesday, tapping a far-right loyalist to one of the most powerful positions in US government.

Late on Wednesday evening, Gaetz resigned from Congress, ending the ethics inquiry by the House ethics committee over allegations including sexual misconduct.

Gaetz’s nomination is one of the most significant to date. As attorney general, he would be the country’s chief law enforcement officer and oversee the legal positions that the government takes on key issues, including abortion, civil rights laws, and first amendment issues. The president-elect has pledged to use the justice department to prosecute his political enemies and there is little doubt that Gaetz will help him fulfill that pledge....

In January, Republicans will take control of the US Senate, which will vote on Gaetz’s confirmation. They appear headed towards holding at least 53 seats, which would give them enough votes to confirm the Florida congressman, even if a few Republican senators vote against him.

Matt Gaetz resigns from Congress after Trump attorney general nomination

But will they confirm him? Why did Gaetz resign already? Is this really a cover so he can escape scrutiny, since he won't be in congress?

Your prescriptions start too late! You want rules for after they're elected, when in fact you need rules for before they're elected. Campaign finance rules, for a start.

The US would not suffer badly if national elections were totally subject to national standards. Canadian national elections aren't run by provinces, but by Elections Canada -- which does not report to the head of government, but to the Speaker of the House of Commons.

America needs limits on campaigns -- gawd, you go on forever and day! The maximum length of an election in Canada is 51 days (and the minimum is 37). Do you have any idea how much money that saves? But more importantly, do you have any idea how that forces contestants to condense their messages into something that ordinary people can hope to understand?

That's right on. We need to reform our political system.
