I am utterly out of the loop, what happened for this huge temple and event to become possible? :0
Ayodhya is where Lord Rama was born and this was the capital of his kingdom. The original Rama temple was destroyed by Mughal invader. Babar; and he built a mosque in its place. Hindus had been agitating for a long time for the return of this land. Two years ago, the Supreme Court of India decided in favor of Hindus. Muslims were given an alternate site where they are building the largest mosque in India. The construction of the ground floor of the temple is now complete and an idol of Lord Rama is being installed there. This is the moment Hindus were waiting for 600 years.

A distant clansman (sixth generation, sort of grandson) playing Rama in a current serial "Srimad Ramayana". He played the role of Bharata in a previous serial, "Siya ke Ram" (Sita's Rama). His grandpa's sister was an option as my father's wife. But the idea was dropped because of having common ancestor, same lineage (Gotra), same surname. Good for my father because my mother was much more beautiful than her. Later she married the elder uncle of my wife, arranged marriages. :)

Why have they selected the Rama idol as a five year old child:

"Panch varsha laun laliye, das soun tadan deh, sutahin solah baras mein, mitra sarasi gani lei"
(indulge for five years, up to ten years instruct him, in sixteen years count your son himself easily as a friend)

"tab tab awadh puri main ja'un, bal charit biloki harsha'un; Janma mahotsav dekha'un ja'i, baras panch tahan rahahun lubhai"
(Whenever I go to awadhpuri (Ayodhya), I delight in his childish actions; I go to see his birth, for five years I am enchanted there)

By the language used, the verses seem to be from "Rama Charit Manas" of Goswami Tulsi Das. Till five years of age a child is considered an avatara of God in India. I do not know what kind of image the authorities have selected, but I think the following image will be closest to it (I have seen a company selling a statuette like that):

No. The image is not like that. You can get information about the the latest that is happening in Ayodhya from Ayodhya Ram Mandir Highlights: Ram Lalla's Idol Installed In Sanctum Sanctorum, which also shows part of the idol. But the masks will be removed only on 22 Jan.

Prime Minister is on an 8-day fast, though he is on tour to two southern states where his party does not have much support. He takes only two glasses of coconut water each day.

"Adhivas" means immersion. There will be 11 immersions, - Water from different places of pilgrimage, Fragrance, Medicinal water, Saffron water, Ghee (Clarified butter), Grains, Honey, Fruits, Flowers, Siesta and Sleep.

Well, Lord Rama proved me wrong in many ways. The idol is not what I had in mind. The body and face was revealed yesterday. I that thought (and there were reports like that), that the eyes will be opened on Jan. 22. But whatever, this is the Sri Ram Lalā of Ayodhya to stay.
(Lallā too is OK. Basically that is how women of the house will address a child in an Indian home in North India if they have to address one child. If all the four brothers are there, then they will call by name Bharat lala or Shatrughna lala. In South India, it will possibly Unniraman - South Indian members to respond. Viraja?)

The arch of the idol has images of 10 avataras of Lord Vishnu (including that of Buddha). And at the top has auspicious images of Om, Swastik, Conch, Chakra, Gada and lotus.
The arrow and the bow are made of Gold and they are fixed to the idol separately.

Modi's fast will last 11 days. And one of the vows is to sleep on floor.
FYI, when Bharat (Rama's brother) was acting as the regent, he did not enter Ayodhya but governed the kingdom from Nandigram, a village 12 miles from Ayodhya, kept Rama's sandals on the throne, and lived like a monk, not eating kingly food, not wearing kingly attire and sleeping on the floor for 14 years till Rama returned to Ayodhya.

The dotted area near Bhadarsa is Nandigrm.

"The chief priest of the Ram temple in Ayodhya on Saturday demanded an investigation after photographs purportedly showing the uncovered eyes of the idol of Ram Lala were leaked before its January 22 consecration."

Jai Siya Ram
Hail Mother Sita and Lord Rama
(That is the traditional non-political greeting)
Big day for Hindus all over the world.

Rama returns to Ayodhya after 498 years (since 1528). Hindu homes have put up Rama flags. Consecration with a 84 second "Pran Pratishtha" at 12.30 today. Fifteen couples from various castes and people of tribes perform the ceremony. Prime Minister Modi puts mascara in the eyes of Lord Rama idol. After that Rama is ready for boons. All temples in India will celebrate the occasion. In the evening, Hindus will have an extra Diwali lighting lamps in their homes. New raligious songs have been created by singer and people have been dancing, rejoicing for the last 8 days.

Because of the rush of devotees, the timings have been changed. Earlier it was 7 am to 6 pm. Now it is 6 am to 10 pm.
Lord Rama too must have been really tired by now. :)

UK MP Bob Blackman Calls Out BBC's 'Biased' Ram Temple Reporting In Parl

I am thankful that individuals like MP Bob Blackman exist and do what they do. The mainstream media, as we all know, is biased and forms opinions for its audiences. It is wonderful that Blackman addresses the media bias.

I've come to mistrust all western media reporting on India, or Hinduism. My understanding, once upon a time, that the Babri mosque had become in disrepair, and disuse. But for as hard as I try, I am unable to find that information now. Seems that info has been wiped clear if it did exist, in favour of destruction, destruction, destruction, those horrible Hindus! I've long held a disdain for media anywhere, but this seems to be one of the worst situations I've encountered to date.

There is now another mosque being questioned, in the Hindu holy city of Varanasi. History tells of at least 100 000 Hindu temples, and perhaps many more, having been destroyed and built over during the Islamic invasions. That incudes the historic and beautiful Taj Mahal, although it's not a temple per se. 100 000 to 1 is still a very one-sided score. Aum.
