Pat Robertson says Haiti under a Curse

blackout

Violet.
I pointed out generally, that reflecting too much or too shallow can be dangerous. You read this as I cared to point out that you haven't reflected deeply enough. Enough said.

I have absolutely no idea if Pat Robertson actually believes what he said, nor does anybody else. Pat Robertson is the only person who knows for sure, what he meant and what his intent was, if indeed he had an intent and wasn't just making a passing observation, but many people like Michael Lindsay will have a guess at mind reading.

If you do not know, Hati is one place on earth where voodoo is still used and still works. This predominantly is due to the people being poor. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind, that some people in Hati would have made a pact with the devil. As far as I can see, if he had an intent, this is just Pat Robertsons way of using the intelligence of some people in Hati against them. In a sort of, this is what happens when you make a pact with the devil scenario. The same way as a concerned parent would say to their child who had just hit their head after being told not to climb under the table, see I told you, you would get hurt. It is just one of the many ways in which humans use their intelligence and take advantage of a bad situation.

ooookkkayyy.....

well we do agree that Pat Robertson isn't the only twisted one anyway.

upp. sorry. you dont' necessarily believe Pat Robertson's statements are twisted.

I'd love to hear what your deeper reflections uncover.

(I'm sure all those innocent children were evil vodo devil worshipping satanists.
and the christian god was quite justified in letting them "have it")

I heard this this morning and the radio talk show I listen to. What a stupid, ignorant, hate bigot
And that's the nicest I could make it(I would be aloud to say how I truly feel).

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Pat Robertson is a doddering fool. I personally don't know any Christians who even WATCH his show, let alone think he's got an ounce of validity.

My personal belief goes something like this:

We live in a precarious world. When we make poor choices, the ramifications usually really suck - not only for us, but also for those around us. In fact, sometimes our wrong actions or attitudes even impact people who are totally innocent or not even involved in our lives till that point. That's cause and effect - I don't blame those things on God.

As for natural disasters - those are the extremes of nature's cycles and part of our earth -just as much a part of nature as a gentle April rain or the falling autumn leaves.

Human suffering and death? I believe that our bodies are mortal and that pain and death are inevitable. But I also believe that suffering and ecstacy are the extremes of the human condition - can't appreciate one without the other. Can't have birth without death. I believe that when we look back from eternity to this life, we will see how unimportant and temporal it really is in the total scope of things. Take for example - a miscarriage. Though it's heartbreaking from our earthly perspective, I believe that small human life has just as much sacredness and importance as Louis Pasteur's long life had.

It is also our duty, however, to help alleviate suffering as much as possible. We can alleviate much of our own suffering as well as the suffering of others by living as wisely as possible and helping others do so as well.

Life isn't fair, or perfect. If we didn't have huge disasters and devastating tragedies, and our suffering was limited to stubbing our toe once every ten years, we would still be shaking our fist in the face of God and screaming "Why, me, Lord?" once every ten years. We would think that amount of suffering was horrible, unfair, etc.

It's all a matter of perspective.

Just my opinion.

That being said, I think the events in Haiti are tragic. The people there were suffering before this quake due to the oppressive poverty of that country - which is due to man's misjudgments, not God's. The terrible quality of their buildings and infrastructure are greatly adding to their suffering now. It's a very sad situation and I am very grateful that other, wealthier nations have so many resources to offer them in their time of need. Thank goodness for the Red Cross and other aid organizations. It's beautiful to see people pull together to help others.

He has linked Hurricane Katrina and terrorist attacks to legalized abortion.

"I was reading, yesterday, a book that was very interesting about what God has to say in the Old Testament about those who shed innocent blood…But have we found we are unable somehow to defend ourselves against some of the attacks that are coming against us, either by terrorists or now by natural disaster? Could they be connected in some way?" Robertson said in a September 12, 2005 broadcast
of "The 700 Club," soon after Hurricane Katrina.

And anything bad that happens in the USA will be us non christian/non "believers"' fault.

How convenient.

We are the (scape)goats after all. no?

NEW YORK - Pat Robertson, the American Christian televangelist and host of "The 700 Club," said that Haitians need to have a "great turning to god" Tuesday while he was reporting on the devastating 7.0 earthquake — the most powerful to hit the country in a century.

As Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive said "well over" 100,000 people may have died in the natural disaster, Robertson took to the airwaves Wednesday on his show and said that the country has been "cursed by one thing after another" since they "swore a pact to the devil."

"Something happened a long time ago in Haiti and people might not want to talk about," Robertson said Tuesday.

"They were under the heel of the French, you know Napoleon the third and whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said 'We will serve you if you will get us free from the prince.' True story. And so the devil said, 'OK it’s a deal.' And they kicked the French out. The Haitians revolted and got something themselves free. But ever since they have been cursed by one thing after another," Robertson said.

This is not the first time the former Republican presidential candidate has made controversial comments in the wake of disasters.

He has linked Hurricane Katrina and terrorist attacks to legalized abortion.

It does make one winder though? Indonesia (tsunami), Iran (earthquake), Twin Towers (terrorism), Haiti (Earth Quake), Pakistan (earthquake), Mexico (Drug terrorism), California (earthquakes).

Matthew 24:6-11 (New International Version)

6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.
9"Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.

Mark 13:5-11 (New International Version)

5Jesus said to them: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 6Many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am he,' and will deceive many. 7When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 8Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.
9"You must be on your guard. You will be handed over to the local councils and flogged in the synagogues. On account of me you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them. 10And the gospel must first be preached to all nations. 11Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.

Luke 21:8-15 (New International Version)

8He replied: "Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am he,' and, 'The time is near.' Do not follow them. 9When you hear of wars and revolutions, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away."
10Then he said to them: "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.
12"But before all this, they will lay hands on you and persecute you. They will deliver you to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of my name. 13This will result in your being witnesses to them. 14But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. 15For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.

I am not agreeing with Pat, just point out other things.

No violet I think I am the one that is not with it today "winder".

Look around. Christianity is under attack every day, the world is changing and we are not changing with it. Ever notice where these events happen? Not strongholds of the faithful. The argument of geography can be brought up but the point is moot, natural disasters can happen anywhere, they dont seem to happen much in Christian strongholds.
