And he will make friends with all who are onside in some way - even if he really detests them.

First of all, NL and Belgium are not "christian countries". They are secular democracies with a predominantly judeo-christian culture, which is not the same thing.
Secondly, the NL and Belgium didn't censor anything. The publisher did.
Nobody asked them to do that. That was their own free choice.
