You're right, my bad. But if you think political correctness is stupid then you don't fall into the bleeding heart liberal camp. But I see your point. But do you agree with me that political correctness is a mjor problem of today's society?

i find political correctness to be petty and in many cases, hypocritical... but not a major problem. i would rather focus on something that actually matters, like health care, education etc.

Ahhh, I see. Too bad we aren't in a political forum, I could go on and on about that.

it didn't occur to me before i made my other posts, but i think we are understanding what political correctness is from different points of view... or rather, we have different understandings of the implications of political correctness. i don't think it is a bad thing to say people shouldn't use words like "***" or "******" in a derogatory way, that sort of thing in England is politically incorrect, and we have anti hate laws - we do not have full freedom of speech or expression over here. that's about as far as political correctness goes in England, at least in the common usage of the phrase.

Then apparently we do have different definitons. The political correctness is this country is a festering sore that keeps spreading into every institution you can think of.

Most people think they are so smart, and it's so annoying. A lot of people I know have lost insight of who they are, and what it means to live. I blame the government more than most, and the people that run it. Society is brainwashed from day one. All most people know is what they've been told, or read on the internet, or saw on tv... it's a shame. People are spoon fed "facts" and information and eat it up like ice cream. No one can think for themselves these days, or at least come to their own conclusions. Most people are not truly happy. I walk around wal-mart, or any public place, and it is so obvious. A lot of people carry such a negative attitude.

Religion is not working it's magic anymore... why? While a lot of people claim their christian-like or believe in a god, they don't live their lives as such. People that do go overboard like crazy usually or misinterpret it. Young teenagers are having sex, exposing their bodies, doing drugs, drinking, and all that nonsense. Why? because instead of looking towards a religion or a philosophy, they are watching tv, and this is what it takes to be cool, to be hip, and to be accepted by their peers. Do parents care? Maybe, what they can do about it? Kids lack discipline. A parent hits their child and they throw them in prison. There was two rapings in DE in the past two months (about an hour from me). One incident involved a 7 year old girl, her older brother (by a couple of years) and his friends raped her. The mother barely did anything. I've lost all faith in newer generations, and most faith in current generations. I'm lucky to live in a small town with mostly down the earth people, wish I could say the same for everyone else. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Greed and lust is taking over.
that's why I dumped my TV. The only problem is that I don't know which medicine to ask my doctor for...well not really since i haven't seen a doctor in 25 years.

Most people are not truly happy because they think they should be paid $1,000 per hour for doing what makes them happy because that is what the TV would suggest.

Take a look at Penguino's posts. Although he is very definitely a teen, he comes across as very bright and mature. I am certain there are others like him around. It is teens like that who restore my faith in the younger generation, although there are others who make me worry.

On the contrary: The fact Penguino is bright and mature has me worried he might be up to something. You should be worried too. We all should be worried. The lad wants to take over the world.

Quote:
The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.

Ah,I'm a bad parent because I haven't taught my children to automatically respect their elders. Which is not to say they automatically act disrespectfully toward anyone - they get complimented on their manners all the time - but I have taught them that you don't get to be automatically worthy of respect purely because you've managed not to die up til now.
Aargh, I'm responsible for the downfall of civilisation as we know it! Bring on those handbaskets, we're going to hell. Because a perpetual calender says so.

hmm perhaps. Some children don't need to be intensively taught manners or things like that. It comes natural for some, and they care for people feelings and want their respect, I mean everyone needs to be at least told what is good and proper, some just need to be drilled more than others.

Two words: Political Correctness. That's where everything stems from. We can't do anything now-a-days without someone labeling us a racist, a bigot or an abuser. It's a pretty sad state of affairs, I'll grant you that. Take away all the bleeding heart liberals and their politically correct agenda and things would get better. Needless to say, my daughter gets spanked for doing something wrong. BTW, I'm never happy when I'm in Wal-Mart either.

You spank your daughter?! (sarcastic gasp) You MUST be a terrorist. What's the number for the Department of Homeland Security?

You're enviroment and location is a major factor of this realization, whether you percieve it as a major problem, or a minor one, it's still a problem. The problem is bigger in some places than it is in others. For example, you probably won't see these problems as consistant at a college, a small town, or a church. Like I said, most people don't fall into this category, but too many people are starting to.

Why do I think society is doomed? It's a combination of things. I'm 21, things in society (moreso the problems with society) have exponentially increased in the past decade, along with technology advancement, population, and things of that nature, things are starting to reach their peak. I started to realize this about two years ago, and me and my close friends researched it. We don't strongly believe it, but definitely see is as a strong possibility. Read up on the Mayans, and 12/21/12 when you get a chance. It's quite interesting, whether you believe it or not.

That should be just about the time that I finish my PhD. :banghead3:fight::computer::149:

Perhaps there is a degree of wrongness somewhere in between claiming that your dog ate your homework and blowing up a building full of people that would be more appropriately attributed to corporal punishment?

That corporal punishment is not as bad as terrorism and that there are many who have an irrational emotional response towards it does not redeem it in the slightest. It just means that it isn't as bad as terrorism and that people should judge things more rationally. I agree that the latter is an issue that must be tackled head on but not in isolation.

I blame ICP.

But seriously, it's the government's fault that parents are failing? That sounds like a major blame shift, there. This topic, sociologically speaking, is so much more complex than that. I think it can all be traced back to organized religion, but that's just one man's opinion.

Well no. I don't blame the government completely but they are a major contribution, it's obviously more so the parents fault. I can't really say just the government, I should say television, music, pretty much our culture and the main role models in this newish culture. The parents let it happen. Let their kids watch tv all day, let their kids listen to gangster rap and things of that nature, otherwise they will go crazy. "My friends do it! how come they can! it's not fair! blah blah blah. influence is a real thing. It's hard to point figures or blame anymore, because people usually just go with the flow of things. I'm just not liking the general flow of things outside my town.

Whilst I agree with you, does this realisation not motivate you to attempt to change things?

I do think it is important to identify the causes of societies problems but I think we need to be careful not to end our attempt at change after merely identifying them and I think we have a duty to keep an open mind and ensure that we have identified them accurately.
